Just back from seeing it. I thought it was great. Nice to see a film where the Director has a vision and goes and does it.

I liked the references to the earlier films - like the Gyro Captain for example.

Where was Gyro mentioned?

Good find, it just shows the naysayers that CGI is actually very good when it's used appropriately and done to a high enough standard.
I think CGI works best as the condiments to the main meal, or some trimming, like in the above music video. It is at it's worst when it makes up the bulk of the meal. biggrin

Oh, I also think Mel Gibson would have been better than Tom, the whole 'aging yet tough as old boots' angle would have played out pretty well.
I agree with this. Tom Hardy was weak as Max. There's something "mad" about Gibson that Hardy lacked.

Charlize Theron, however, was magnificent as Furiosa.

The more I think about this the more I like it. The characters remained consistent in action and behaviour which is rare in a blockbuster (looking especially at you Prometheus). I got the feeling Joe really believed the same as the warboys he wasn't just playing them for his own benefit. The background "shiny and chrome" and "witness" remained throughout. The warboys helped and supported each other, they weren't default "bad" just getting by in a cruel world.

One thing though, not sure on the timescale from 1 to 4. How long would a culture like the warboys take to develop.

I think I'd be buying the Blu-ray for the extra features on their own. Hopefully they'll do a big behind the scenes bit and stuff on making the cars. Thats bound to be fascinating. More so than the movie!

I don't know about anyone else but I'm getting more enjoyment reading about all the components of the movie than the actual film itself - it's a rare one where spoilers in advance would actually be a good thing.

I read an interview with Mark McKinley (Chief Mechanic on the film) and he describes it as "probably the most dangerous vehicle on the set."

Just got back from seeing this.

yikesyikesyikes

What a great film! Just incredible.

But.....

You have to see it at the cinema and on the biggest screen you can. I feel its impact will be diminished by a huge amount watching this at home, no matter how big your TV or how good your sound system is. I am really glad I went. thumbup

Would have been nice if they'd bothered to get the shape of the goggles the same.

There was a short-lived Discovery Channel reality show about Howe&Howe and I know of the Ripsaw from that. Interesting stuff! thumbup

RIGHT , after getting some stick on here when i attacked the lack of plot posts, i decided to watch MM one and two after many years . The first film , christ!! is some sort of gay affair, very strange with a very basic plot, good film but a little gay and leather/bare arse. Second film ( and for me what MM was all about ) even so, very basic plot but with great 80's action etc.

Still stands, the new film is awesome.

Yeah. PLus the vibro seats I was in when I saw it. This is a spectacle for an IMAX and gimmicks, I can imagine it being utterly tedious at home.

You know those rare occasions where you know with 100% certainty that something is going to be utterly awesome before you've even laid eyes on it? Yep, this was one of those. Will be preordering the blu ray the moment it's announced

Saw it tonight. Liked the cars, great to see Peter Stringfellow as the baddie. Charlize sexy as ever and Hardy reprising Bane. I liked the fact it wasn't a CGI fest too.

It was better than the new Avengers movie, but that's hardly a difficult bar to raise. But enough hints to old Mad Max to keep the fans happy.

But Mad Max 2 is still comfortably the daddy.

Anyone else feel that it was a shame that the Interceptor only lasted a couple of minutes, bar two or three glimpses later?

For me that car was always the true star of Mad Max 1 & 2 (Mad Max "Thunderdome" does not exist), although acting-wise I think Toecutter and Bubba Zanetti stole the show, and Bruce Spence as the gyro captain in MM2.

That would be my only real complaint with it, especially after he mentioned he was going to get it back but never did

There's actually more CGI than you'd think, a lot of the landscapes were digital. Says a lot that you just don't realise when you watch it though.

The core stunts were real though, apparently, and that gives the film a believability (despite its extremely stylised comic book visuals) that is often shattered when CGI is used to clumsily recreate the physics of vehicles. I have no problem with CGI being used to touch up or enhance real scenes - it is a movie after all - but I don't want to watch something entirely computer animated.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. An adrenaline-fuelled white-line nightmare of the best possible kind. Probably the best petrolhead's film since Drive, in my opinion, although two more different films it is hard to imagine.
