I wanted to be excited about this.

I went to Mad Max 2 in the cinema with my father when I was sixteen. Loved it.

...but the awful reviews came in and I just couldn't be arsed. Sad. I'll watch it when it gets onto Netflix.

Terrible reviews? It's on 89% at Metacritic and 98% at Rotten Tomatoes which for an action film is incredible

Universal acclaim, apart from the people in this very thread and all over the internet as a whole who say it's just one long boring car chase with crappy acting, you mean?

You mean the vocal minority you'll find with any film no matter how well regarded it is? Currently rated an 8.4 on IMBD as well, which puts it at number 75 of their all time list, but what do all those viewers and critics know?

Fair comment. Vocal minorities can be pretty vocal.

Conceded. smile

Yeah it's certainly not got universal acclaim. I think it's high scores relate to wildly over-scoring in those that do like it. I think the pro-feminist thing helped there.

Moaning about the acting in an action film? That's petty, if it was 12 Years a Slave I'd get it.

In other news Pacific Rim is just big robots fighting monsters

fking excellent film. Says what it is going to be and then delivers.

Mind you, no baggage on previous versions either. Which is unusual in today's reboot culture.

Good acting is always required for a film, action or not. An action film with poor acting is like a student film. It's just st. Not that Fury Road has bad acting, apart from a lazy phoned-in performance by the eponymous hero. I like quality stuff, not haphazard, lazy film-making.
But a film needs a story, or it's just a music video.

Pacific Rim was terrible. I knew it wasn't going deep and meaningful but it failed to meet the low standard I had expected from it. I mean you shouldn't be able to fail to with a giant robots fight giant monsters but this somehow managed it.
