I had understood that it is meant to take place between 2 and 3, which means that the V8 Interceptor should have been destroyed. But since it's such an iconic car now, they'll probably retcon it so that it wasn't destroyed.

That plot synopsis has elements of "The Man in the Iron Mask" about it.
