Someone with whom I am acquainted but essentially have the same fate...

Needs new lungs, preparing for wedding and refuses to give up on life.

I won't put any spoilers here, it's worth a watch to put life in perspective smile

After watching "Alex: A Life Fast Forward", I'm not sure I want to watch another one of these programmes.

Inspirational, but absolutely heart-wrenching too. frown

Edit as I was thinking of Alex Stobbs not the Alex A Life Fast Forward.

A dearly loved friend of mine, another of us with CF, died a couple of weeks ago so while I expect tonight to be hard watching it will, as these things do, motivate me to push harder to keep going as long as possible.

Kirsty was posting earlier on a forum urging people to watch tonight wink

I agree, brought me close to tears watching that. Life is too cruel for some people frown

I had a double lung job done a couple of years ago which was brought on by CF, can't believe the way my life used to be compared to now.

Saw the show advertised but i have to admit i didn't watch it, tend to find shows like that a bit too close to home but anything that helps with donor numbers is a good thing

I understand exactly what you mean. I have times when I just shut out everything CF except my own as it's enough to deal with.

Knowing the ending to this I felt safe watching and it gave me a kick up the arse to make sure I keep figthing after a tricky year.

I wish you many happy years of heading pistons smile

And you too!

are you on the list? the things i found most important were keeping a good weight (can be difficult for some people) but from going in for the op to coming out i lost 11KG's so its just as well i had a decent reserve

and fitness doing whatever you are capable of to keep yourself going physically, it can be very difficult and i've beeen there but it really helps recovery time post op

stick at it!

I saw the advert for it and when she said something like "do I still look pretty with the oxygen" it brought a lump to my throat.

Not sure if I'll watch it though as I'm a wimp about stuff like that.

edit: just realised it's already been on, d'oh biggrin

TXWRX - Ta! I'm a long way off the list but not without issues. Not working but doing what I can to get back into a business I can manage around everything. I'm a good weight tho having done the gastrostomy thing for years and had it removed.

eybic you can catch it on iPlayer. It's worth the watch for a real glimpse of what CF does and how we deal with it. We're a remarkable bunch smile

I didn't see this but there was a programme a few years ago about Alice Martineau, who had CF and absolutely didn't let it get in the way of anything. It was called The Nine Lives of Alice Martineau, that programme made the room very dusty when I was watching it.

It was a good documentary. It showed CF in a very good light, however it was rather heart wrenching at times.

Like SF I am nowhere near that level to think about a TX but it was still difficult watching. Especially knowing how low my Lung function dropped to last year post operation.

I have known Friends who have gone through TX. Some have done better than others, many just haven't made it to the TX.

Unfortunately that is one thing that fks me off about transplants in this country, due to the lack of donors they wait until the patient is on deaths door and all the fight & strength has already been taken before they operate. Sometimes there is not the strength left in the body to fight.

Wish it was an opt out system rather than Opt in.

Totally agree, apathy rules unfortunately. If people feel strongly about not donating (as many do) they would make sure they opted out. Most just can't be bothered to opt in though.

I'll watch this on the iPlayer later.
