I've tried using the search facility, but I couldn't find anything.

Those familiar to the original and who liked it, will no doubt be excited by this prequel. I'm a big fan of the John Carpenter version and still rate it in my top ten films.

Well I saw the new one last week. I know it's not out at the cinema yet, but I have seen it.

I'm not going to post any spoilers, but I will make a few comments about the film.

Personally, I really enjoyed it. It has kind of the same feel to it as the original, maybe with a little more towards the action side of things. The actors I thought were very good and it is quite faithful to the original. There are quite a few 'Oh, that explains what that was in the original' moments and fans will enjoy the link up.

There are a couple of bad points though. I didn't really rate the special effects that highly, I feel they should have used the same techniques as the original to give the gross out factor. There are also one or two little things that don't tie up with the original, but you can let them slide.

All in all, I enjoyed it. It hasn't received rave reviews from critics, but I actually don't care and liked it.

7/10

Is this the story of what happens at the Norwegian camp or a reboot?

It's the story of what happens at the Norwegian camp. The film ends where the original begins.

I think that might be one of the little things that stopped me loving it, it didn't feel very 80's...

and apparently has ruined the 30-odd year debate that has raged since the original as to the question "what happeneed in that Norwegian camp then?"
I didn't need this kind of answer apparently.....I'll wait for the Channel 5 release on TV....

7/10 though....better than I thought I was going to see when I opened this thread...encouraging.

By 'original' I assume you don't mean the real original film version of John W Campbell's novel, made in 1951 ? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044121/

( Remember, this is Pistonheads - pedantry matters :-) )

Wasn't 'it' a killer vegetable in the original?

Apologies, as an 80's child I am unaware of any films made prior to 1960 wink

I agree, I liked the mysterious nature of the Norwegian camp and believe it would have been better to leave it unknown. Saying that, the plans they had in line for a sequel sounded dire and I'm glad they chose not to run with it.

Bear in mind that is purely my opinon and I've been told my taste in movies can be a little crap at times. As a point of reference, I really liked 'Watchmen' and 'Warrior', but a lot of my mates didn't like either.

The SFX were the main gripe for me and it does borrow a lot from the original. Also, with it being a prequel you kind of know how it's going to turn out.
