I don't normally post during programs, but I think this is actually very good.
I was horrified at what he did to the software copy of the woman.

Love Brookers work but that ending was depressing! boxedin

As ever a cerebral terror from Brooker, science fiction that feels (at least in ethics and morality if not technologically) like we're almost there today.

Thought they telegraphed the twist ending a bit hard with the clock observation early on, would've rather it just been seen and left for sharp eyed viewers to get a rewarding payoff.

Just watched it now, was watching Missing and Brian Pern last night.

I liked that one a lot, I haven't seen Mad Men or whatever else John Hamm has been in, but he was good in this. The whole digital copy thing and the blocking was pretty creepy.

And yes the karaoke song was the same Irma Thomas song "Anyone who knows what love is (will understand)" as the 15 Million Merits episode.

Well, a mostly muted response to a rather muted programme.

The following may contain spoilers, I've tried to use open phrasing though.

The substance of the third story was telegraphed much too early/clumsily by the clock comment... the clock also looked like it was jumping around in time a bit, but we didn't get a lot of shots with it in to check properly.

"Blocking" could easily be gotten around by writing notes and putting them on the table/fridge/floor/sending via 3rd party/etc... as the criminal guy eventually realises.

I wonder if there's any way the lady's copy could go properly psycho and murder her original with the controls? And, the best big question in this episode IMO, does she have "Human Rights", or is she "just code"? It's clear the bloke understands exactly what he's doing, and that the lady doesn't (ignorance or denial?).

I'm guessing "red blocking" is pretty much a mob-death sentence - the snowglobe vendor looked like he was seriously considering copying the criminal.

I did like the recursive ending!

The interesting question for me was the rights of the cookie and how it relates to the owner.
The cookie is "just code" so has no rights and people can do whatever they want to them, yet a confession by a cookie can apply to the owner.

The cookie thing could (and hopefully will) be an episode in its own right. It's too rich a topic to be relegated to being a instrument in this special alone, I feel.

Does a digital copy with sentience and consciousness deserve special rights? Or is it still "just an AI"? Is it not slavery when the brain doesn't happen to be organic?

Would've liked to have seen this explored more, really, and seeing more of Oona Chaplin wouldn't have hurt. lick

Definitely the episode that's probably closest to present day. Slow burner but I enjoyed it. Always nice to see Jon Hamm drinking alcohol and having something to do with girls after Mad Mens been off for a few months.

I loved the previous series, had missed this was back. How many have I missed, just S3E1 'White Christmas'?

As far as I'm aware it was just a Christmas Special, not the start of a new series.

The Netflix series is up on October 21st (not sure if it's in one go or weekly), and they're putting the Channel 4 series up on October 1st biggrin
