That's it... 'A Car is Born', following a nerdy vet bloke building a Caterfield, (can't remember which).

"Victory By Design"

It's on one of the Discovery channels, not sure when it'son though, times seem to change.

It's about legendary Marques or particular models of cars. Some amazing motors are featured with the story of how they came about.

I'll try and find out when it's next on.

Almost all the Wheeler Dealers episodes are on youtube, there'sa bunch of people who rip them and post themup. They're very addictive!!

Also the "is born" stuff is all up there too.

Some of my fave youtube films are the old Camel Trophy programmes. Shame it got severely sanitised for the Freelander generation. curse

I'm not a fan of 'New Nascar' and stock car racing but I enjoy watching the old Nascar from the 60s and 70s when the cars raced bore alot of resemblence to what you could buy at the time. It's fun watching the old Plymouth Superbirds racing with their wings or the Charger 500s, and it was fun watching the original Chrsyler Hemi wipe the floor with the competition of time time. The noise is intoxicating. I found some on Youtube but was able to buy a whole lot of DVDs showing the historic races

Anyone watched Overhaulin'. I think it's on discovery turbo. It's a US show where they take someone's p&j without their knowledge with the help of a family member then restore it and make it awesome. Normally these are old muscle cars the owners have had forany years but have fallen into disrepair due to lack of funds.

It can be quite funny at times
They are pretty good. The reveal usually has the recipient in tears. Fantastic what they can do in 7 days.

American Hot Rod would have been good if they didn't have to make every show into a drama. You at least got to see a decent amount of how they built and painted the car etc.
Must be something about American shows, I caught the US version of Who Do You Think You Are and even that subtle show has a dram intro like the US version of Hells Kitchen and the like.

Ultimate factories on NatGeo is pretty good. I suggest watching the dodge viper factory first, it's nice to see a hand made car being built.

Yep its like every build had to be to some deadline. No one ever said "build me X car, take as long as you like I want it perfect". It was always build it by X date.

I felt a lot of the cars built could have been better had they spent a little more time on them. and the staff would have been a whole lot happier.

Old episodes of American Chopper before they became 'personalities'. Can't be bothered with the latest series, though. frown

Plus it was more about the characters, some more focus on the work would have been interesting to see!

Agreed. The earlier series spent two episodes per bike build. Now, the builds are an afterthought. The present series is lamentable.
