Looking for advice / opinions on the above.

It's for a Xmas present for a special friend.

No death or cruelty.

I saw a movie with a zebra that raced against horses a while ago ... that would fit.

Cheers

The dog dies though don't it?

Assuming so, imagine the "trump trump" sound from Family Fortunes.

Cheers,

Uplifting?

I'm sure I remember getting sad at this film when I were young.

Would an animated Disney movie fit? there are plenty of them. Bolt would be my choice, it's one of my favourite sunday veg out films that I can watch again and again

Cats and Dogs is another good one, live action mixed with CGI when the animals talk, that's a lot of fun to watch and there was another one called G-Force that was quite similar but about Guinea pigs

What do you mean by uplifting?

Yes, there are worrying bits, but it all comes good in the end and everyone survives. Which is what I thought was a key requirement by the OP.

But on further reflection I agree with other posters to Re: Cats and Dogs, also along a similar vain, how about "Underdog" or the "Buddies" movies, "Snow Buddies" is pretty good.

Then you should avoid -The Belstone Fox , Old Yeller , The Yearling , Run wild Run Free, The Fox and the Hound smile
The final scene in the 1972 Call of the wild is truly heartbreaking

Depends on who it is for? A child, I guess any of the 'Buddie' film franchise I.e. snow buddies. Dolphin tale etc. Snow dogs for a bit of cheesy husky stuff.

'Eight below' defo for an adult, a few weepy moments for the female lot but overall a tale of courage and resilience. And I'm a husky lover so anything with them in is great!
