One minor niggle (last episode)

the bits inside the UN really boiled my piss and didn't really make sense. You have a gun, why are you running?
Because it's not 24 and there's no Jack Bauer fending off 50 gun-toting bad guys with a screwdriver, it was half a dozen armed Russians versus them tongue out
plus nobody in their right mind is going to start a gunfight in the middle of the UN. It would be an international incident. Arguably, Russia could / would be more willing to break this, but would most likely be muscling her away from him and on the first flight back to Russia, rather than blasting away. International politics / espionage / diplomacy is rarely Gunfight at the OK Corral

That's my point

They're in the UN building in the middle of NYC on American soil surrounded by loads of civilians and god knows how much security. What were the Russians planning to do exactly? Manhandle her in front of everybody? Have a stand off with an armed American government official? What was their plan after that? I'm pretty sure the American bloke could have had that place locked down in short order and prevented them from leaving with her.

I’m not sure of the ins and outs of the international laws of the U.N. building, but it is sort of treated as neutral ground for a lot of the stuff that happens there, with diplomatic immunity being a key part for a lot of the personnel. However, a lot of the immunities are waived and is subject to US law for crimes. I’m pretty certain the Russians could manhandle one of their citizens out of the building and to a plane in a diplomatic vehicle with the only comeback being a strongly worded letter expressing dismay at their actions. It is extremely unlikely that a US agent would pull a gun, especially one who is CIA and therefore unlikely to be allowed to operate on US soil. Locking down the U.N. would bring a world of pain onto the US as a whole. It’s international diplomacy and the whole concept of the show in recent series has been about that. Im pretty certain that individuals are “sacrificed” for the greater good on a regular basis. They let Brody die without much objection in Series 3.

I’m not sure your niggle is anymore than an expectation of Hollywood style shoot outs that really aren’t the way that Homeland has ever been played out (excluding the farcical one at the end of the previous season). It’s always been about calming the situation and letting it fizzle out. T

I interpreted it as that, of course they could have, but would Mirov have been so forthcoming in handing over the flight recorder if she'd escaped without retribution? The whole subtext was the "cost of doing business", in this case she was sacrificed to prevent any further escalations, and potentially a nuclear incident with Pakistan. Saul knew that.

I think we should stop this discussion now until after Sunday when others can join in

that was the whole point. She wasn’t being handed over and the black box wasn’t being handed over until Carrie intervened. I’d she hadn’t then another route would’ve been needed

Point of order

The Russians were already on their way down to the conference to announce they had the black box, hence why everyone was gathered, it was pure 'luck' they ran into her making her escape as they stepped out of the elevator.

One interesting Tidbit,

Zabel was born in Stoke on Trent, and has been married to "Carrie"/Danes for 12 years!

Whoda thunkit!

Lucky lad!

He was Will Graham in Hannibal TV series a few years ago

Don’t forget David Wellington is played by Linus Roache, also a Northern English lad and son of Ken Barlow actor Bill Roache.

Indeed, one of, if not the best series of them all with a very clever ending... Loved it!

Haha, very cunning.... a web that came out alright.

A good ending, fantastic series that surely now has run its course.

Very good ending.

On the whole, barring a wobble towards the end, a fantastic series, shame it's over.

I stayed away from this thread all week once people were saying they'd seen the finale, thank you all for not revealing anything anyway!

Amen to all of the above comments. Seems bizarre that it's now ended for good!

Has it though ?

They've left lots of room to make another series .
