Nah, I think Saul looking like being retired and Carrie in exile brings it to a close?

A great last series, some great tension and all the secret agent stuff that the show did really well - finished on a real high. Feels weird that it's all over now, like a bit of void.

The only thing i didn't get, near the end after yevgenny told carrie that the Russian agent killed herself, after a tip off, why did they suddenly have to escape, who was in danger?

They were in Israel and Israeli counter intelligence would have known what was going on. They needed to get out quickly. Sorry, just to add Carrie needed to get out quickly, as Saul knew how she got the translators name.

Sol would know how she got the name.

Sorry, but the Russians won hands down.

They achieved their prime target of getting the mole identified & eradicated, they didn't actually hand over the flight recorder & they got rid of Saul from the NSA. They also made out they were they were the good guys in announcing the contents of the voice recorder & thereby stopping a potential nuclear war. The GRU bloke got everything he wanted.

The final sop that Carrie was now in a position to replace the mole is just nonsense - as an ex US agent she wouldn't get access to a Moscow subway map let alone state secrets. She betrayed the USA & Saul & set USA intelligence back a decade (as Saul said). She's the ultimate traitor.

A good final episode though.

It’s detente. There’s no winners or losers as such, it’s the game they play. Yes they got the mole, but the world avoided a potential nuclear war. The flight recording was played for all to hear. That’s all that was needed, the box itself is irrelevant, but could’ve been handed over for all we know. Saul retired years later, the last scene of him moving out wasn’t the week after this all happened.

The Russians were the perceived good guys in finding the flight recorder. So what? It’s not a game of cowboys and Indians.

Carrie will have spent two years nurturing her relationship with Yevgeny and leveraging her own position.

I think you’re taking it all a bit too personally though, it’s a work of fiction, but probably more realistic than most of the US shoot ‘em up stuff. If you’re thinking this way, then I’m not sure how you saw out the full 8 seasons, as it doesn’t sound like your type of programme.

Carrie didn't have access to anything. She was getting intelligence info from other people. The bag swap in the washroom was presumably her collecting some more information from an asset.
It's not totally implausible that she could manipulate people in the GRU to provide information to her, she was always good at moving people in to positions of not being able to refuse what she wanted

I thought the bag swap was her getting her book to someone else to get it delivered to Saul. The rest I agree with though, she would be a central point for information, but very able to get it from Yevgeny given his position in the GRU and their relationship.

I think the bag swap was supposed as the the "Details to follow" from the message that Saul got, but either way, it showed how Carrie was still fighting the fight.

Great ending though, to a great overall series. We were a little late to the Homeland party, but I got S1 and 2 on DVD when they came out, and then started watching with everyone else once series 3 was broadcast.

Agreed, I said last week that this series was played out at a pace not previously seen with real edge of the seat stuff too. The fact it was known to be the final series, also meant that none of the characters were safe, although killing off main characters hasn’t been an issue previously this series had added tension.

Having just hinge watched all of series 1-7, I now find my Virgin V6 did not record series 8, and C4 catch up seems to have only episode 8 onwards.
So big question is...... where can I find the first seven episodes? Netflix does not have it yet.......

Help!!!!!

Nope, sorry: she turned traitor & the attempt to rehabilitate Carrie by implying she was able to work as a double agent smacks of the writers & producers bottling it. It's the sort of thing insisted on by stars so their "brand" doesn't get tarnished (cf Cruise, Statham etc).

Even their own double agents that get sprung back to Russia are parked in a stty apartment in the arse end of somehere - they just aren't trusted. The same for the American ones.

I fully realise it's not meant to be realistic & there are plenty of other plot holes but this one was just cowardly. I thought the first couple of series were excellent, it drooped in the middle but the final run was excellent. They just lost their nerve.

The one apparent hole which always annoyed me was how Carrie was able to just move around all of these ME towns with a loosely fitting veil, as clearly a blonde American woman...
