Watched Ep 10 last night - rather good.

BB - saw some of the first series and never really got into it - does it get better?

It really is the daddy of all things TV. Get the entire box set and watch series one, you will be hooked. Has everything- sadness, tension, laughter, excitement and love.

So Pistonheads on telly then?

I agree that along with Sopranos, it is the best thing ever on Tv. It took me at least 2 series to be hooked though.

Sopranos was my no.1 before BB. Never thought anything would beat Sopranos but BB edges it.

I really wish I agreed, I tried watching it on Netflix and by the time I got to, IIRC, the 3rd series I was bored senseless, hated each and every one of the characters, and found that I was beginning to find it a chore to watch.

I gave up.

Now Homeland, that's FAR better smile

Never watched the Sopranos either...

Sounds like I've missed some good stuff - but I don't really watch much TV stuff.

There is no way Homeland competes with Breaking Bad. Not in a million years. It's been quite good but there has been loads of boredom too. If BB is 9.5/10 Homeland is a solid 8.

As you were.
This season I'm saying. Breaking Bad was good for seasons 1,2 and 4, ok for season 3 and great for season 5.

That episode was one of the best of any show I have seen. What an ending!

Still incomparable, imo.

I get the virtues of BB, but did you not find it dragged a bit at times? I am only up to S3, which was very good but I certainly found parts of S2 were just boring.

This coming from a chap who absolutely loved everything about The Wire.

Now, I have watched the wire - and that was superb.

The Wire and Band of Brothers are the two shows that I'd say were my favourites.

Definitely agree but its all a build up for whats to come. I realise 3 seasons is a huge build up, but within those are some utterly brilliant episodes.
Particularly, for me, season 4 is the best television I have ever watched. Utterly sublime and it would not have worked without the others.

Ok, looking forward to S4 now then. Agree, there have been unforgettable moments so far - Crazy Handful of Nothin from S1, The Plane Crash from S2 and Half Measures from S3 being particularly outstanding.

You've just reminded me about something else that I disliked about BB, I found it didn't just drag, but it was depressing.

Depressing to the point that it made me want to climb up to the roof and throw myself off.

I don't know what it was, perhaps the setting of their suburban home or something, but the series just seemed as though it was shot on location in purgatory to me.

Re: BB - I just watched the whole lot a second time. One of the best 'laugh out loud' series I've seen. Sure it's dark, and also depressing, but that makes the humour so much stronger when it hits you in the face. IMHO of course.

How did we end up talking BB on this thread?... aplols... as you were.

Homeland series 1 was very good. Series 2 and 3 nothing more than middling. This series is excellent. Though it's obviously ridiculous that someone with such major "people issues" as Carrie has would ever get to a position of authority & power in an organisation as rigid as it's portrayed.

THis is what I was getting at earlier.
On one hand it doesn't really matter because you have to suspend all your cynicism to enjoy these puerile action thrillers, but I don't understand their need to focus on it so much. Her mental/people issues detract from the plot and realism so much and add nothing, yet are the focal point of each series. It just feels lazy

I don't think it's that crazy that someone as craze as Carrie what to where she is within the remit of the programme...or real life... biggrin

Just binge watched around 4/5 episodes...wow, it is ace. For one moment I thought it had gone all American 80's soap when Brody's face popped back up, but that was handled fantastically.
Really got back into this show now. biggrin
