I never got why they constantly show the bit of Only Fools & Horses when Den falls over in the bar? Is it really so funny?
No - it's only mildly amusing if you judge it just by the clip. The reason it's consistently so high in viewer votes is because people have their memory of the episode, and it's just the punchline to a VERY long build up. And you do not see it coming. (Same with the chandelier moment.)
You didn't see the chandelier moment coming??

Oh come on, we all expected it to happen but not quite as it did, which was very funny at the time.

You can't compare that with a man in drag saying Fecking eejit...

Indeed. The writer played with our expectations, built up the farce slowly, ratcheted up the tension until timing was absolutely perfect and then delivered a different punchline than we were expecting. It's this sort of nuance which is all over the sort of comedy I like.

Did anyone see "not going out", now that is ste, I have not seen anything as un-funny as that.

I agree about Mrs Browns boys looking a bit tired but I was rather watch the latter. Maybe it's my age, who knows. I am looking forward to seeing what "Open All Hours" is like tonight.
I laugh my arse off at both, It must be my age.biggrin
Me too. I found the first series of Mrs Browns Boys very funny and the second/third of Not Going Out also funny.

The problem with Mrs Brown's Boys is that it is far too similar to "When the Whistle Blows" from extras. It's just a bit crap, for me anyway.

Reading some of the posts above, I'm beginning to see why some find MBB so unfunny and annoying.

Some are referring to the likes of Only Fools as being subtle. It never was.

Much of MBB is "in your face" humour which is not funny. I didn't realise some thought that is what was supposed to be funny. The humour that makes me smile and laugh is at a level far deeper than that. I can understand if people just take MBB at surface value and don't get the subtlety of the entire show proclaiming its crap.

Only Fools was good at massaging your comedic thinking, MBB doesn't do that quite so obviously.

"I like to let kittens feed from my beard". Was there a funnier line in 2013 comedy than that? That's almost worth a thread in itself.

I don't find MBB funny, TBH the Xmas day episode is the first I've seen. It does make my parents laugh (both in their 70s) and that is no bad thing. That is far more than can be said for much so-called TV comedy, My Family for example.

At no point did I compare the two. I asked a simple question about a statement I quoted.

Just for the record, I think MBB is utter rubbish - watched a couple with my Mrs who enjoys it. It didn't raise as much as a smile from me.

It's for anyone who enjoys it but my experience is that it tends to be the older audiences who don't get it.

If you're referring to MBB, I find the opposite is true. Older audiences seem to enjoy it more.

Why not just not post instead of repeatedly posting to say how above it you are?

Watched MBB for the first time the other day..... Can't even remember if it was a christmas special, it was so dire and unfunny. I gave it about 15 minutes and to turn over to Songs or Praise which from memory has more comedic value...
