From DR (Danmarks Radio) the makers of Forbrydelsen/The Killing, Borgen started last night on BBC4 in the "usual" 9pm slot, two hour long episodes, back to back.

It's a political drama, very much in the style of both The Killing (with some familiar faces in unfamiliar roles) and The Wire.

We've just watched both episodes back to back and are now desperate for next Saturday's offering. Thoroughly recommended.

It's in Danish, subtitled in English, but I don't mind that at all - it does make you concentrate and not "multi task".

"Borgen" is apparently Danish slang for Christianborg Palace, which is where the Danish parliament is based.

Just watched no. 1 and about to start the second - really enjoying it. A similar 'feel' to the first series of the Killing even though a totally different theme. Shows we don't make the only good dramas!

Fully agree, I loved the 1st series of The Killing and am almost at the end of number 2 but have to admit I find Borgen more interesting than the second Killing. Makes you wonder how many other good foreign dramas/production teams are out there that we never normally hear of?

We have just discovered The Killing and have watched 12 episodes over the weekend. It is just brilliant.

Borgen will be watched this weekend I feel. Properly cracking good stuff this.

I'm on a slow burn catch up on this. Just watched episode 6.

Very, very good!

Love the quotes a the begging of the show, they sum it up nicely:

"Politics is war without bloodshed.
War is politics with bloodshed".

Along with Forbrydelsen, my Danish is also coming along! (badly)

Not any more. I've watched all three series & read the book. All I need now is a wooly jumper & a stroppy teenager.

If you mean Katrine, she looks very like a friend/work colleague of mine. And no, I'm not posting a picture, before you ask!

showing my age, but she is nice

Just watched the first two episodes on the I-player, excellent drama really enjoying it. Did my head in slightly figuring out where I'd seen the BMW salesman in episode 1 from before

It was every other Danish drama you've watched in the last five years, if you haven't figured it out yet. wink
