Very similar circumstances to the biker incident but a different legal interpretation here. Some may remember the harrowing footage (issued with the family's consent) from the biker's helmet cam of the incident. Another case of ' I didn't look properly' and a biker using excessive speed, but in this case the driver gets a ban and community service.
He pleaded guilty. Who knows what the result would have been if he'd opposed it and stuck it in front of a jury. Edited by darren f on Friday 5th February 18:26

Fair point, but the thing that intrigues me is that (I assume) in both cases the drivers involved must have taken legal counsel, in the A47 case the advice must have been 'you have no defence, despite the 97mph bike speed'. ISTR he was a guy who relied on driving to keep his job, if he had any hope of keeping his licence I'm sure he would have persued it. I seem to recall the accident report stated the bike must have been visible for 5-6 seconds, therefore very similar to the MC incident. Yet in the latter case it was deemed the driver had enough of a case to plead not guilty. I'm struggling to differentiate between the scenarios. Although, as others have said, we are not in possession of all of the facts in either case.andym1603 said:
Looking at the damage to the nearside of her car, does that mean before she carried out her U-turn she was on the wrong side of the road? Or am I over thinking this?
I think the bike was going the other way: it had already passed the accident the Honda was queuing towards, hence the bike with its light on being seen on the dashcam footage of a police car at the scene of that accident. Honda lady has swung out into the other lane, maybe only to 30 or 40 degrees at a guess, judging by the impact angle, presenting her nearside to the oncoming bike. Again, supposition, but if little/no traffic wider than a motorbike was getting past the scene up the road, the biker would possibly have been enjoying an empty lane with stationary traffic next to it and so less alert than normal, and the driver have even less concern looking for oncoming vehicles as nothing else has been coming the other way for a while.I do think the program missed a chance to educate regarding looming/motion camouflage - they could have explained the principle, possibly even filmed something to demonstrate it, and made more people aware of the importance of taking some time to look properly. As yet, no bike has a teleporter system, they never "just come out of nowhere".
Horrible crash. Good job there was no one in the passenger seat of they'd have probably been a goner as well. I know that road quite well as I used to live nearby and use it everyday. People really fly along it as it's fairly straight and up and down. Part of it is built on a Roman road.

They should end more chases by bashing the vehicle being pursued. Effective.
Not really, it was police contact that caused the spin and hence the Peugeot avoiding the stinger. Why does the commentary often have to be 'adjusted' to make the fleeing driver responsible for all occurrences? </rhetorical>
Forgot to mention that the Peugeot was a stolen pride and joy of somebody and ramming it is not necessarily the best way of ensuring that it gets returned in best condition.

Not really. Police vehicles are also a limited resource and need to be on the road, not in a body shop. speedking31 said:

Anyone got a clue where this has gone?
The BBC are a bloody joke when it comes to this programme. I can't imagine them moving any other programme around in different time slots, days, channels, changing its name, showing 3 episodes of a 5 episode run at one episode a week then showing episode 4 several months later at 3 am on a Tuesday and episode 5 on iPlayer.
