The missus and I watched Season 1 and 2, and have recorded all of Season 3 so far from Sky but not watched as yet.

Is Season 3 just as good, or is it starting to drop of a little bit?
Just as good.
All 5 seasons are good!

Has anyone else been struck by the quality of the soundtrack? Some great music and really well positioned.

I've come across umpteen new songs or artists having heard snippers, thought that I had to find/get it and searched on line.

It seems to be known for this and there are several sites with really good track listings that even position tracks against parts of an episode and give snippets to listen to, like this:

Last two weeks’ episodes (‘A Sort of Homecoming’ & ‘The Son’) have been ridiculously good. Outstanding performances by Zach Gilford & Aimee Teegarden (Matt & Julie).

10/10

Exactly the same as me. I love NFL and used to play (a UK based version) many years ago so thought I'd try ot out. But with so many episodes and so much else to do, dithered and nearly stopped. Glad i didn't. It quickly grabbed me and now it's a 'must see'.

Music wise, it's led me to Iron and Wine, Explosions in the Sky, Eastern Conference Champions, reminded me of some Wilco I'd lost/forgotten, Fleet Foxes, Mono, Grizzly Bear and Band of Horses amongst others.

A real win all round for me.

And if you like all them then definitely check out scott matthews if you haven't already, eyes wide open is a great track but he has also done a fair few covers of things like bob marley and joy division.

The whole show along with the wire is probably the best thing i have watched on TV. I've never really got in to NFL before apart from playing madden on the mega drive way back when.

The series has also led me to listen out to music in other TV shows which i normally don't do and have picked up a few gems. Erma Franklin off the wire series 5 (Thanks Lester!) was one of these.

I don't think it is going to happen but how much does everyone want the lions to draw the panthers in the championship game of the final episode?

Just a quick one, has anyone seen the film with Billy bob thornton of hesame title, is it similar?

The nearest thing i have ever seen to this was Varsity Blues which was very similar storyline to the first season.

Aye, it's pretty good (and has a few of the same cast members, but not in the same roles IIRC)
Both are based on the same book, but the film isn't directly related to the TV series other than telling the same story as such.

Mrs Chimp was out last night and I had a few hours to kill so I thought i'd give S1E1 of this a try to see what it was like (Sky On Demand).

I ended up watching the first 6 episodes of Season 1 last night biggrin

Loving it!

I found it quite addictive! One of those series I recorded and then watched at quiet times to relax me, a programme that was easy to just watch and go with the flow on, often pre-bed. It does get quite 'dark' and with a fair bit of intrigue later so I'd avoid spoilers here on on Wiki etc.

I’ve been banging on and on about this for ages. (see my previous posts) biggrin

Such underrated and underappreciated drama.

If you notice any ‘continuity issue’ between seasons it’s because when they filmed season 1 they weren’t sure if there would be season 2. Season 2 was affected by ‘writers’ strike’ and season 3 was written as the final season until it was renewed for two more seasons.

I’ve been re-watching them all on Sky. Wonderful.

Added a lot of songs to my spotify list. Most recently 'To Build A Home' (The Cinematic Orchestra) from S2 the great boat-trip scene. smile

Exactly the same for me. I heard various clips and hurriedly found them via lyric searches etc. in case I lost who they were from - then found there was an entire site devoted to their use of music!

As a result of this show - and even links the artists linked and found! - I came across The Cinematic Orchestra, Explosions In The Sky (quite similar), Fleet Foxes, Eastern Conference Champions (the latter two both my current favourites; EEC are an awesome band imho), Iron and Wine, Pepper Rabbit, Blue Merle, Sufijan Stevens amongst others and renewed my love of Wilco.

I'll always feel grateful to this show and the producers' brilliant use of music for what it's given me.

Still re-watching it on Sky and today's episode (S3EP12) featured this scene with Tyra Collette.

Just a heads up Sky Atlantic will be re-showing the whole series again from tomorrow 8pm (Mon 2nd Dec), though it’s probably in Sky on-demand somewhere as well.

Friday Night Lights is one of my favourite TV dramas, and I rate the pilot episode to be one of the greatest ‘pilots’ of all time. Give it a try!
