We may be 3 months away but the Irish voted last night who they wanted to represent them this year. Good for them, at least they understand EV

I discovered that WHOLE competitions from the early days are now on youtube. I watched the winning song from 1965 which was very fetching. As was the 18 year old French singer who sang it - France Galle.

The early years did have a certain "je ne sais quoi" that is completely lacking these days. I haven't watched the Eurovision since about 1988.

Watch it every year and have done since i was a kid. Why? I can't tell you, just one of those odd things you get into the habit of. I like the new Graham Norton commentary, just the right amount of sarcasm.

This year it falls on the same date as my wedding reception so i shall be missing it. I didn't check the dates before booking the venue. I think it could be 'nil point' for Angleterre though given Dave's exploits in Europe last year. Voting is all about european politics anyway.

With a week to go here are some links to the previous UK winners....

1967

1969

1976

1981

1997

So the gaps between winning are 2, 7, 5, 16 years. If you study those figures carefully you will of course see a pattern, and the next number is 153... so we only have another 138 years to wait until we win it again....laugh

Most countries don't want to win it because they can't afford to host it.

UK winners on the whole, have been poor songs as far as I am concerened. It was the UK who started to drag the competition into "Boom a bang a ding dong" territory.

Just listened to the track and laughed, quite a lot. I should feel sorry for the 2 idiots, they are not bright enough to realise they are there as a patsy to ensure EV doesn't come to Ireland again!

Who will give me odds on that they will get a respectable section of the votes and be fielded next year too? hehe

So really, it's just another form of Pop Idol, X-Factor, The Voice and all the other ste that fills our screens every evening - but with foreigners and we will lose. May as well stick your head in a blender; at least it's quicker.

I seem to recal a few months ago the contest was threatended by islamic nut jobs. They named jedwood as targets as well IIRC.
I am ashamed of my thoughts for a few seconds after reading the story.
