I just knew what that was going to be even before clicking the link! There's 2 things I'll never forget about that year and that song:
I was at a meeting in The Hague a little while before the finals that year and when the subject of Eurovision came up the delegate from Finland said something along the lines of 'on behalf of the whole country: I want to apologise in advance!'
The other thing was a friend had a Eurovision party that year, to make it more fun there was a lucky dip on which was 'your country' for the evening - my wife had Finland! and during the scoring 12 points also got a shot glass I may have helped her out with a few of them! thank god we were not driving home!

Mrs Puggit has decided to go out and work on Tuesday night (my birthday!!!), and as recompense has booked a table at the local bistro tomorrow night.
I am NOT amused!!!
Hang on, you're moaning because your (I assume) lovely wife has arranged for you to go out to dinner and you can't watch EuroVision? I'm moaning because I have no one to go out to dinner with, and am therefore stuck inside watching fking Jedward. I am NOT amused!!!

I remember they were 12/1 to win that year, and I just knew they would. Damn my aversion to following instinct! There's 2 things I'll never forget about that year and that song:

Ireland look like they might be the only entertaining one in it, apart from the Russian Grannies.
I shall, however vote for Greece. It's not often you have the power to take down a whole country on a Sat night. (Well, it's not for me anyway.)
I like your thinking. I also like the fact that the only thing standing in the way of the Irish economy going down the toilet completely due to having to pay for next year's contest, is Jedward. The term 'low point of a nation's history' doesn't seem to cover it...I shall, however vote for Greece. It's not often you have the power to take down a whole country on a Sat night. City Link screwed up my TV order from John Lewis this week so I'm lacking a TV, but in theory it can be watched live through the Eurovision website, so I may still be joining in, just without Graham Norton (you'd think the BBC would have it streamed live via iPlayer).
They are. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv/bbc_one_london/wat...
