Think the program today has tried to fit to many people into a short 1 hour (minus breaks), would have been better to show just one or two of the pairings and in more detail.
True - I would've liked more details, particularly with Mohammed and Maura. Enjoyable - funny in parts - as a black British man, the old guys killed me and it's so familar from my younger days.

miniskirts scene.... oh dear
Where did they wheel out that fat slobbering from? Even in Bradford they'd need to dredge the gutters to produce such a putrid specimen of humanity.

On a wider note there was nothing unexpected. Five minutes into the first episode I said it would end up with 7 people gaining some experience and one either refusing to change or giving up. It wasn't a lucky guess, it's the standard agenda in these reality programs - have a single exception to prove the rule.

When you think of the views of the retired copper if really makes you feel sad, as he would have been implementing policy 20 years ago.

Watched this last night and was disgusted by the vile idiot in the pub verbally lambasting the young indian (?) lass. "Show your cleavage and wear a mini"... if he'd said that to a white british girl he'd be done for sexual harassment. Utterly vile....

HOWEVER he did have a point, if one visibly segregates oneself, one will be categorised as different. She admitted to deliberately choosing to wear "foreign" clothes (sorry, not sure where she originated from) to visibly show her ethnicity (segregate herself) to show she's different!
If I go to a formal do here in Germany or Switzerland in a kilt, there's bound to be some moron making comments. However I don't break down and cry, I give an apt verbal retort, if and when required.

As for Mohammed, he is a typically arrogant male chauvinist from the indian sub-continent who uses racism and religion to his sole mysoginistic point of view. One of the types who should be shown the door...

A better episode. The old white guy seemed to understand what effect his language had when the little brown girl told him of her experiences at school.
Mohammed was just a parody, and the story of how he is bringing a future SiL over wasn't great. Did Mohammed's wife speak English?
The argumentative/aggressive man in the pub did himself no favours, but he did have valid points. He crossed over the line way too much when he touched the young British Asian girl though.

I agree with a few comments above they did try to squeeze too much into the 1 hour.

Was very shocked again with the behaviour of the landlady, she came across as being a bit 2 faced. She was smiling and nodding when the guy in the pub was having a go at the girl, and then even in the coffee shop was having a bit of a go, then all of a sudden changes and starts to be really nice.
She did that in the 1st show, using the term and saying it’s not offensive and then saying that she used to be racially abused too.

Surprised the girl did not have a go at the drunken when he stroked her leg and said something along the lines of them feeling nice, that was a step too far in my opinion.

The final scene just as they were leaving the house, as the credits started to roll, was that Rashid and that other guy holding hands skipping towards the gate???

No, he didn't have a point. If you go to Saudi, for example, there is a law that states that women must wear clothes that cover their arms. You must comply with the law of that nature if you wish to visit.

Britain has no such law. It's one of the things that makes Britain British; people can wear whatever they like, so long as they're not naked or offending public decency.

That girl, who was born and raised in Britain by the way, has the right to wear whatever she likes. she wears what is comfortable to her and her life. Her choice.

Those ignorant fks in the pub had no right to be telling anyone that they should be wearing mini-skirts low cut tops. It was bullying plain and simple and I thought the girl did well to sit and take so much of it. Good on her.

So when you wear your kilt the next time and someone starts getting that rude and in your face, what you gonna do? Square up, tell the idiot to do one? Easy for you as a bloke, not so easy for a slightly built young girl in the midst of an ugly crowd.

The only saving grace, I believe, is that ignorant people like that are slowly dying out. Shame that it'e likely to take several more generations to get it gone.

I thought Rashid and Damon's experience was quite uplifting; you can clearly see from Damon that the whole community/family & culture had opened his eyes and how he would use this to think about his family.

And for him to go to the mosque and talk about his views in front of group of people was great to see - he was very honest i.e. taking the long way round to avoid the area etc.

It was great to see that they had become friends.

The negative was the pub events, unbelievable!

The fat, ignorant idiot was a total loony and I was very annoyed with his actions and comments.

No one has mentioned this, but when he was at the bar next to Shabbiya (with Audrey behind the bar), I was lost for words when he basically said 'ni****s' have settled in as British and Asians haven't. I found it shocking that Audrey just watched and carried on - WTF!

By the way, I think she (Audrey) definitely had a split personality in this series; one minute she talks as if she white (saying how Asians need to integrate or go back home etc) and then the next minute she goes all emotional about the racial issues she has had on her upbringing and how bad racism is - did someone else get the same impression? I found it very contradictory/shameful of her.

Anyway, the fat bloke talking about miniskirts/low tops showing off titties and then touching Shabbiya's leg - unf***ingbelievable. Is that what British is all about?

But thumbs up for Rashid & Damon; they definitely where the stars and inspiring for all that were watching.

He didn't even say that though, he said something along the lines of "We're not allowed to shout "get your tit's out to asian girls in our country, so why do our women have to cover up when we go over there". fking retarded.

EXACTLY! Her choice to look "foreign" to most people (as she admitted to want to look asian and not european british), so it could be construed (probably wrongly) that she brings it on herself!
If she feels so upset about it why not dress demurely (long skirts and shawl) but not blatantly "unbritish"?(Sorry couldn't put it better.....)

Draw the parallel to punks and other such wierdos who deliberately want to draw attention to their pitiful selves withtheir outlandish looks, THEIR choice.... they get laughed at and shut out of many things purely because of their looks as they want to offend!

You obviously misconstrued/misunderstood what I was poorly attempting to put into words...!!

It would be very naive to think that, Harold Shipman also did. He is talking in hindsight and the problem being his views look quaint, but he was in charge of officers that would have similar views, black bds etc.. and people would have been locked up on these views.. whether guilty or innocent.

They would have been locked up by the law, not his views. He wasn't racist.

silly

I can guarantee I lot of people were locked up in the 70's,80's and 90's for being guilty of black. The Stephen Lawrence case highlighted deep veins of racist views of policeman.

It is funny, where I live Rusty Lee, is moving in to the village. One of the staunch christian worshiper's said she would never fit in, baaed on her colour, and she is of the same generation but not considered a racist to outsiders.

Being racist is an inherent throwback to years gone by, and the ex officer showed traits that were based on skin colour for which he is the only judge of being a racist. But i know a lot of people are racist in their views and never say it and whether he played up to the camera or not, I personally find it hard not to think that he made decisions based on race.

Because you are making statements in a pretty over the top way designed to press buttons and elicit a response.

If it happened, it's a bad state of affairs. But I've been online long enough to never accept anecdotal evidence presented by shouty men with bad spelling and punctuation.
