Anyone mentioned Jacob's Ladder yet? I don't recall that making any sense at all.

Wizards. Admittedly most of the late night stuff i like to watch to go to sleep is odd animation. Heavy metal can be a bit unusual in plces but hasn't aged well. Castle of cagliostro is another good one, as is belleville rendezvous or the secret of kells.

If you want really weird, try la planete sauvage.

Yep, Man Bites Dog, weird and actually quite worrying.
Naked Lunch is an odd one too

other surreal/dreamlike films that might be worth a go

Near Dark
Company of Wolves
Orlando
Cube (I've certainly had these kind of dreams anyway!)

I'll give you a slight clue for watching Primer, it is a puzzle and leaves you mentally drained after watching it (it did to me anyway hehe). I don't claim to "get it" yet but a lot of it is unexplained and needs filling in with your own imaginings

The earpieces are the key, follow them and you'll start to see what's happening

Some really good ones mentioned, I'll be checking out most of them.

Calvaire (The Ordeal)

Belgium horror that was clearly made by some sort of village idiot, its not very scary but very very odd. Actually funny in places its that odd

heres a scene that is one of the oddest (work safe) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1owrlQlLExY

theres a bonus film on the disc thats even more strange!!

Slightly wierd films revolving around dream scape type worlds you say?

Inception anyone? Surely the ultimate adventurous "dream" film as per the OP's original criteria.
or also another DiCaprio film Shutter Island which is also a bit of a mind f*ck and quite dreamlike in places.

As mentioned I am a fan of The Fall. There are places in that film that I never could have imagined existed.

You just have to get past the fact that the little girl keeps farting and you're in for a visual treat. hehe

Seen it multiple times - still not sure I know what it's all about. Why did those trails appear at the plane crash site, etc?

Russian Film Nightwatch and follow up Daywatch.

Really freaky big budget Russian answer to Matrix, but story line more along lines of Manga.

Worth a watch definitely.

As recommended by a friend, I watched it until halfway through. Just seemed kack to me IMHO.

I'm a big Donnie Darko fan, thoroughly recommended.

eXistenZ (another David Cronenberg film)

http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0120907/

Gattaca

http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0119177/

I realise they're both Jude Law films (I'm not a fan, just coincidence). They might not be great films either, but both could be classed as weird, and are watchable.

Lost Highway (David Lynch)

http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0116922/

Momento

http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0209144/

Jacob's Ladder

http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0099871/

All will leave you thinking. I think.
