What an amazing thread.

Did actually LOL at the

nameless poster "what about xxxxxxx"
OP "Nah that's Elstree, I said Laaarndan"

heavily paraphrased for purpose of taking the mick.

Anyone looking for TV and film footage second half 1966 Huddersfield, just after World Cup Final, preferably including shots of trolleybuses.

hehe

Watched The Mutations from '72 the other week with Tom Baker. Had some interesting London scenes, and I had to freeze frame one scene to have a closer look which had a London street with a beaten up old Facel Vega HK500 parked in it. cool

Just wish I could remember the one set in the school, it ticked every box, think it even had Cat Stevens or someone doing the music, or was it a kind of 'Lazy Sunday Afternoon' type song. scratchchin

'Villain' has been shouted out on this thread a few times, and with excellent cause: it's probably one of the very best examples. Watched it yesterday and quite a few of the locations - Kensal Green cemetary is where we have our family plot smile - with spots around Willesden and Kilburn just look obvious even walking around there now.

Also, try 'Sitting Target'. 1972. Oliver Reed chewing through the scenery to get at Jill St John. I'm not much of a South London kid, but it has a lot of scenes in and around Battersea, plus a mews locations in SW7.

Scream And Scream Again Peter Cushing? Vincent Price

Has anybody been watching the Rank "Britain on Film" shorts on BBC 4? Great colour period shots of Britain (including London) between about 1958 and 1970. Some great cars keep cropping up (and the odd aeroplane - like a Hunting Clan Viscount on the episode last week).

Ah, I've got 'Crossplot' tucked away in the 'waiting to be watched' pile. Thanks for the prod.

What I really noticed about Villain, possibly due to the cut of it I have, was that everything was so crystal clear. Nigel Davenport in the garden of his 1930s semi with the curved bay windows, Wolfie's flat, Dakin's mum's house, all looks so fresh, it's like a time capsule film.

I've been scratching my head all night about one that was set in a London comprehensive school and Google hasn't helped me with what it's called. And it's not To Sir with Love.
You're thinking of S.W.A.L.K which these days is better known as "Melody", released in 1971 and shot throughout 1970.

Interesting, cheers for that. Hopefully it's what I was thinking of and is worth an £8 Amazon punt. smile

Great stuff, although I'm not sure what the BBC are doing with it, it got to episode 5 or so with another 7 to go and now they're running it again from the start. confused

Remember seeing that as a kid and it totally freaked me out with the runner waking up with no arms, then no arms and no legs. hehe

As you can see, I can't do that multi-quote thing hehe

Sitting target. Starring Ollie Reed, Jill Ireland, and Ian Mcshane. Filmed almost entirely in London. Great action sequences around Battersea in an Austin Champ come to mind.

I've thought the same about Villain whenever I've watched it - Benny's flat is the same at the start of the film, inside and out - all very fresh and tidy looking. A few of us on the Sweeney forum have visited some of the locations recently, the railway arches at Nine Elms have changed a bit since 1970 but you can still recognise where the final scene was shot if you go there now. Wolfies flat exterior in Battersea still looks pretty much the same but parking outside is a bit of a pain. The plastics factory in Bracknell is very different now and the empty field opposite where the phone box was is now built on, as is the area a little further away where they ditch the battered S-Type Jag and 'borrow' the Zephyr. The footbridge over the raiway is still intact where Dakin and Terry cross over to get in the P5B Coupe, the vegetation has grown up a bit but the area either side is still recognoisable. All good stuff ;-)

Regan - The pilot for The Sweeney (and The Sweeney as a whole) is mid 70s, but still very evocative.

Great scene in a disused warehouse near Tower Bridge, now £2M+ flats!

Jean Luc Godard's Sympathy for The Devil, came out in 1968. It's a film featuring the Stones in the rehearsal studio and a mix of surreal short films mostly shot around London. One of films is set in a scrapyard.

Watched a bit of Straight on Till Morning recently with James Bolam, some good footage of around Earl's Court but had to give up on it as it has to be one of the most unwatchable films ever.

Dreadful.

Was thinking the very thing. Thing is, Thamesmead isn't that much different to when the filmed there!

Also..Long Good Friday must be up there with a shout on this particular theme!

Glad I'm not the only one smile
Brilliant for detail isn't it? I paid my way through Uni working in Nine Elms not too long ago, and you're right. My boss had a Soarer and a 996 Turbo and I only ever got a lift once, often having to trudge from one end of the market to the other to get home. So I took in the scenery. Incredible that so little has changed in all those years.
