Was great to see the '91 season review yesterday - I ditched my VHS sets yonks ago.
And is it me or does some of the older stuff look like it's in HD, it certainly looks a better picture than I recall it being at the time!

Without seeing what has been done to the footage, one of the old problems associated with F1 coverage from that era was the quality of the images coming from the countries that used the American NTSC TV standard. In 1991, countries that hosted F1 using NTSC were -

USA (Phoenix)
Canada
Mexico
Brazil
Japan

Part of the problem was the conversion from NTSC to European PAL.

Perhaps they can use better digital techniques now when carrying out such conversions.

You won't pay to watch it from your high horse, but it's ok to steal it?
Chose to take BTV rather than Sky, as it's f'kin expensive for 300 channels of repeats, peppered with half a dozen channels of reasonable stuff. Whilst I don't deny that when Sky do something properly, they do it very well indeed, I'm not sure that the snooze-fest that most F1 races turn into can be turned into 2 hours of excitement even by Sky. Hence, I'm not willing to pay for it until it can be proven that F1 can be made interesting at least 80% of the time
Sorta have to agree. I used to watch the Discovery type channels all the time when back at home from uni. Moved out ages ago and I've just made use of my parents sky go log in to see the F1. My Dad also has a Slingbox on the second sky plus box in his house so he can watch when hes out in azerbaijan. I had a play with it the other day only to find those favorite channels still showing stuff I watched years ago. Its like they've been on repeat ever since. The sports channels were all footy and cricket (boring), the entertainment channels had absolutely nothing going for them and once in a blue moon there might be something decent on one of the movie channels. It really is just 1000 channels of complete guff and repeats and through pure statistics a handful of good programs have emerged. To be honest, I'm glad I'm not paying for it.

What Sky have shown so far on the F1 channel has been quite good though, I have to admit. Though I do have a feeling that the overly dramatic music, silly camera work and editing and the flashy spinny whizz bang graphics are going get on my wick. Fast.

I saw the sky pre-season warm-up show on freeview last night, guess they were showing it to reign in more punters... but it did look and work very well!

I feel bad, but when Louise Goodman was on itv f1 I couldnt stand it. She didn't say or do anything wrong, it's just for me I'd say she's perhaps better suited to radio.

Georgie Thompson and Natalie Pinkham certainly make my sky f1 viewing more enjoyable biggrin
