I am looking for the next TV boxset to churn through. I like American Drama/Cop Shows. I have recently been through:

The West Wing
CSI Miami
Law and Order (almost all 20 series!)
The Wire

I am thinking about NYPD Blue. I only every saw glimpses of it when it was originally shown and the only lasting memory I have about it is the shaky camera.

Is it any good or should go for something else?

Rookie Blue and Blue Bloods are good light entertainment which also have Blue in the title.
Not in anyway taxing though if you prefer thought provoking drama.

NYPD Blue is great! Usual format for a series is to have one major story running through each episode which, in turn, has it's own case that is worked each week.

I may actually buy them myself as I originally watched it at unsociable hours on C4 before the advent of Sky+.

NYPD blue was great when Caruso and then Smitts were in it but went a bit downhill after that for me.

I've always really enjoyed NCIS personally and can highly recommend "Dexter" as a different take on a cop drama.

Other recommendations would be Fringe and Breaking Bad, both great series and something different.

And don't forget the Soprano's if you want to see the law from the other side...

I've watched them all when they were first shown on C4; IIRC only the first four seasons came out in DVDs. frown

Get seasons 1, 2 and 3 if nothing else, Smits is absolutely superb. One of the first 'great' US TV dramas I reckon.

The Shield gets 5 stars from me too.

Sipowicz (sp?) was the most believable cop character I've ever seen on TV/film.

My watching was ruined by Ch4's schedulers.

Six Feet under (not a cop show, but very entertaining)

NYPD blue was good for its time, but I think that you may get a bit bored with it after a while.I watched the whole series and I think it was of its time and has been surpassed with programmes such as 'The Wire'.
I would certainly try 'Southland'.Fast paced and realistic characters.

Excellent. I like Caruso in CIS:Miami and Smitts is good in the West Wing so I will give NYPD blue a shot.
