Anyone notice the damage to the rear bumper on the Jag when it was on the turntable?

anyone notice on the opening shots of the test drive the number plate changing position? my initial thought it they moved it cause they thought the plate was blocking the air intake causing the limp home.

I can't speak for anyone else but I find the way Mike Brewer speaks to people to be offhand to the point of rudeness. He frequently clearly hasn't got clue what he's talking about either.

As for Hammond I perceive him to be smug and charmless though I don't want to be too rude as maybe his personality might have changed somewhat since his head injury.
I met Edd China many years ago when he bought my old Mercedes Sprinter to transport his sofa/car.. seemed like a nice enough chap.
On the flip side a friend met Richard Hammond a while ago at an event and said he was a tt with a god complex...

I mean, that 'engine cleaner' device - what a brilliant money making piece of kit...why didn't I think of that mad
Coming to a Halfords Autocentre and Kwik Fit near you soon - 'Full engine detox - only £79.99'
17-25 year olds will queue round the block in their Saxo's ready to throw money at the receptionist for a bit of that!!

Anyone who knows a just a little about engines will know that you will always get a little bit of carbon buildup - you can't expect your combustion chamber to look like the Queens best silver teapot. These deposits are the result of blow by oil vapor and other contaminants. They will quickly burn off, and be kept in check once up to temperature. Excessive deposits that don't burn off through normal use are usually the result of worn valve stem seals or an excessively rich mixture.
I suspect (cynical me) the manufacturer gave that machine to Edd in return for some brilliant free marketing (just reading the comments here proves it worked). The emissions readings are easy to 'fake'. Just take the readings from a lukewarm engine, run it on that machine for an hour, and retest with a very hot engine. The chemicals in those canisters (I suspect a mix of petrolium, Paraffin and Acetone) will lower emissions short term anyway.
Summary - a complete waste of time (and money) - an 'Italian Tune-up' will do the same job.

As for the rest of the program...
Those aftermarket alloys looked rubbish - the first job should have been to replace those with standard wheels, and sell the 20" rims to an idiot on eBay.

Mike offering £600 CASH for those parts...Like the owner is going to admit to tax fraud on TV!

Why replace perfectly serviceable shocks with like for like 'standard' shocks - get some uprated sports shocks FFS, especially if you're going to fit cheap aftermarket lowering springs to a prestige car. And notice all that rust inside the shock tower - some problems bubbling up there for the next owner in a few years time!

Replacing the front grill - pointless. Just spray what he had with satin black. And I couldn't believe he left the previous bodge on show. He could have smoothed off the holes and placed a length of black PVC pipe (cut along it's length) over that to make it look better or something.

And as for the brake disk conversion. Angle grinding the lip off in situ - sweet Jesus.

It's a shame to see WD dumbed down so far. I guess it's no longer aimed at 'enthusiasts', and is trying to appeal to a bigger audience. It's a shame, but not unexpected.

I hope the format of giving the car away, stays.

TBH at £1 per phone call they probably made more out of that one show that all the other "sales" put together.

The wheels have been falling off a little recently, with all the "buyers" who are the original seller/won't appear on TV (because they are the original seller) or
are a Nigerian Scammer on the Internet.

If every week the restored a car and gave us the chance to win it, it would dispense with all the pretence and falseness.

They weren't aftermarket wheels, they were genuine Jag wheels off the later XK8/R

It's called Wheeler Dealers, part of the show is to try and get a deal. All he was asking for was £30 discount for buying everything, in your mind he's worded it wrong and now it's tax evasion. Quite a big jump that from just asking for a discount.

The shocks were uprated, they were Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs if you watch closely you'll see the logo. Hardly cheap st is it. And it's a second hand car at the end of the cay, competition prize or not it's a used car!

It's a thin piece of metal FFS, hardly like he's cut his own grooves into the disk. Funnily enough I'm sure Ed is capable of doing that small job himself without killing anyone or the car.

yikes I saw that and thought WTF, some correct back plates couldn't cost that much surely. Edd usually isn't into that sort of bodge job.

The plate is only a stone guard, hardly what you'd call a botch job. It's what any of us [that actually get our hands dirty somewhere other than on a keyboard] would have done in the same situation.

Exactly. Bilstein and Eibach are probably about the best non-race parts you could find. I'm sure I've read Porsche use them for their OEM parts.

As for the disc sheild, it is exactly that, a sheild for water and stones, if you need to improve brake cooling it can happily go in the bin!

Quite a few manufacturers use them as OEM equipment. BMW on their M cars, Porsche and not to mention the Nissan GTR.

Our Legacy Spec B has them as OEM fitment and it's a superb setup.

Compliant setup on B roads also, not a stupidly hard setup but at the same time reassuring and positive. I think they did say that on the programme at some point too.
