The OFFICIAL Game of Thrones Season 2 Thread!
Discussion
Having read books 1-4 on the back of series 1 I now wish I hadn't. So much is missed out (understandably) that it began to irritate. And other bits changed for TV.
Those f@cking adverts! (but yes, Sky+'d for next week)
Also, I don't recall the book ever stating for certain who Gendry was, and I never envisaged him to be a 'pretty boy'.

Hasn't the actor changed for Gendry?
No, same actor. It was pretty heavily implied who Gendry was in the books but the tv is far less subtle
Same as the whole Renley gayness.
The series is going to deviate from the book quite a bit as the books do drag a bit. However GRRM has approved all the changes
GRRM is in London this weekend actually.

I cant remember but they did know that Gendry was Roberts. I dont think the book had that 'scene' but it was worked out. Those f@cking adverts! (but yes, Sky+'d for next week)

Best ratings ever for the season opener :-)
It was a bit different for me this time as I now had my own ideas about what the characters should look like. I was glad crasters keep made it in, but craster wasn't at all how I imagined him. Stannis didn't feel right either, but Davos was good. Liked the full size Dire Wolfs, just a bit worried that they won't be able to keep them looking real using CGI.

Have not read the books, but fingers crossed that massive douchebag Joffrey gets brutally murdered at some point ..
Ha, that would be TOO easy I thought the new episode flowed very well from the end of book 1. I saw episodes 8, 9 and 10 immediately beforehand. I'd forgotten some delightful details.
Mother knows best:"No. First we rescue your sisters. THEN...we kill them all."
I was only disappointed there was no moment as there was in almost every prior episode. (Bran "falls"!, Viserys gets his gold (x4) and dies! Robert dies! Drogo dies! Ned dies! Tyrion doesn't die, and so forth...)
I have no doubt they're coming.

I thought the killing of Roberts children was shocking enough, OK it didnt involve any of the major characters but it was quite brutal! I have no doubt they're coming.
Noticed Peter Dinklage got top billing in the opening credits.
As season 1, having read the books doesn't particularly reduce the drama, but does reduce the number of WTF moments to ones where, "Ah yes, this is the bit where..."
To be honest the screenplay must have been a nightmare to write. Wonder if in real life Martin is one of those people who don't use ten words where he can get away with a thousand.

There is one of the google talks with GRRM, he seems like a decent guy. He was a screen writer before he was an author so he has a good idea of the comprimises that need to be madeF i F said:

Yeah, I noticed that too, having wondered beforehand who would replace Sean Bean with top billing and assumed it would be PD.I guess a Golden Globe and an Emmy puts you in the driving seat when it comes to billing issues!

Same here. I thought the ending was as powerful as most of the others.PD did win an award. Also, weren't all the S1 actors in alphabetical order? They switched to S2 characters afterwards?

As an aside, I rewatched Batman Begins last night.
Bit disturbing when you see a < 10 year old kid on the screen and want to kick his teeth in
There was a poll on one of the fan sites that Benioff and the other producer post on and one of the top voted "scenes people would like to see" was Joffrey getting more slapped. There is also a 10 minute montage of Tyrion slapping Joffrey on youtube. Bit disturbing when you see a < 10 year old kid on the screen and want to kick his teeth in
The actor who plays him is great for such a young person, the hate he has managed to inspire in people is brilliant. The character is an evil little st but the actor acts him so well I find myself physically wanting to hit him when I see him on screen
