I found it a tad flat in the first half. I didn't like the slapstick. But I did laugh out loud at three moments; the headbutt, and the janitor said some things after that. About hoarding which hit a nerve. Also Derek's last line. I liked the sad bit, but it was very hit and miss. A bit all over the show.
I really liked it.
Imo probably the most powerful thing he has done, genuinely emotional and dealing with some big current real issues. It wasn't start to end laughs, but it obviously wasn't meant to be. After getting over Rickys facial expression and Karl playing a character very similar to himself (which i initially thought would ruin it but by the end wasnt a problem) i found the characters to probably be the most likeable lot he has produced since the office.
I think he did a great job with the subject matter.

After the first half I thought to myself 'WTF am I watching.' I liked Extra's, Then it started going down hill a bit. But the second half so far as made me laugh at parts.
Like said already, The death bit was quite moving. Even more so after the bus bit which I was having a laugh at then straight into that...
Could be interesting. I hope for Gervais' sake it picks up and becomes a half decent series.

Thought I'd give it a chance. Watched it to the end but won't be watching again. My mum used to work in a place like that and it brought back to many sad memories. By the end I just wanted to slap Ricky for producing, writing and staring in something that's just to unfunny and painful for me to watch.

Ricky Gervais is a one trick pony. And that pony stopped being funny about 8 years ago.
A comedian, making a career from performing in a particular style? That certainly is unusual. I can't think of any other comedy performer that is famous for doing the same sort of thing all the time.Oh, apart from all of them.
Peter Kay was hilarious for his first couple of DVDs. Watch them back now and it's well off the pace - things move on and people want something new.
