I still have 'Hamster On A Piano' stuck in my head (from the first episode)

I still can't work out what I made of it all, but I'm erring towards this. Yes, we can see that Derek is a thoroughly nice bloke, we didn't need all the personal testamonies to work that out!

There is a danger that Ricky is not being sincere about exactly who the joke is on, so some are avoiding the possibility of having the joke on them.
I'll risk it and say I enjoyed the show.

From the Limted knowledge I have I'd him (his tweets/interviews) I do not think it's a joke on the viewers.

Can't get enough of it, almost finished it for the 2nd time now, some of the early episodes I've watched even more times. It's Karl that makes it for me.

I can't agree more.

It's one of the most interesting slots on TV to me, I can't quite understand it.

He certainly gives the impression in his tweets that he regards this as his true magnum opus and that he's immensely proud of it.

I don't think he's pulling a fast one and secretly giggling up his sleeve at the gullible audience....

+1.

Anyone who thought he was 'taking the piss' needs their head examining.

I personally thought it was brilliant...it just got better and better.

I thought it was bloody brilliant. The last episode had me welling up like a proper woofter and I don't mind saying it.

Proof positive to me that Gervais is a brilliant writer and a pretty damn good actor too. KP is sodding hilarious in this too, I love how you get the deep emotional side of things and the comic relief.

I'm not yet convinced that KP isn't a character though. He's far too 'him' all the time, in every interview. He's bloody brilliant, but I think he has created the KP character out of a smaller part of himself.

If Karl pilkington is a character then Gervais I quite frankly a genius. If you watch some of the older stuff and listen to the radio shows from 10 years back he's exactly the same, so to slowly release him into his work over the last 10 years like he has was a brilliant tactic.

I don't think he is though, I think he genuinely is that way and Gervais just gave him a script for this and said read it, no acting direction or anything, just completely himself.

I know, have seen all KP footage available i think, but even that footage is still him, on camera. I just wonder if it is a genius bit of character development...

Absolutely amazing if so, but I'm just as happy for KP to be KP, that may even be the best thing yet.

Since the podcasts I think he acts it up a little because he knows he can make Ricky laugh... the true KP is the really early radio shows I think; with the horse in the house stories etc.

Even if Karl is playing himself, he still has to bring the emotion of the situation, which he did very well.
