TCM 22:55 tonight.

Notable if only for the opening sequence - one of the very rare occasions I've been left open-mouthed at what I'm seeing on-screen?

Aye. Thats the one. Your mind starts formulating what might be about to happen, yet part of me was going "No, surely not". Hence the shock when it does.

What I never understood is how the Captain's head gets cut off, yet everyone else gets dismembered at the waist? Apparently it was supposed ot be more of a psychological horror, but they changed their mind and added loads of cgi jump scares.

Having just watched again presumably a simplistic plot design to keep the girl he is dancing with alive?

Bloody great film.

Easy to watch and not pretentious.

The ship looks excellent in its derelict form.
