No wonder people download films illegally.

No, it was the cinema in Parkway. As I said, it stopped being a cinema was empty for a while and there were various squat parties there, not an official venue in the slightest.
I remember one time sitting in the stalls with my girlfriend listening to some trippy Hawkwind stuff, then downstairs there was one packed room with a constant stobe going and no other lighting. Lots of dogs on strings.
This was early 1995.

Were you at the United Systems one where they were playing Star Wars in 3D in the cinema bit with the old foyer for the music?
I have lived in Croatia for 18 months and I still love the Cinema. Granted I hated it in the UK.
Just to add insult to injury, it costs me £3.50 to see a film on an average screen, £3.75 on a fully digital unit with epic sound, or £6 for the new IMAX which is 3 minutes down the road.
A coke and popcorn is £2
No one talks, or gets up.
I always get the perfect seat at IMAX by pre-ordering 2 hours in advance.

fk knows! Were you at the United Systems one where they were playing Star Wars in 3D in the cinema bit with the old foyer for the music?
Just know the Liberators were at some of them. We were watching something on a screen, before we went into the totally mental strobe room. We were used to it but the Parkway raves stick in my mind as the most heavy duty.

Yep I'm pretty sure I was there too, as an aside Chris Liberator played at my 21st, good times!

We are told that the UK cinemas must charge stupid amounts for food/drink as they don't make any money on the films. So are the film companies over-charging the cinemas?Just to add insult to injury, it costs me £3.50 to see a film on an average screen, £3.75 on a fully digital unit with epic sound, or £6 for the new IMAX which is 3 minutes down the road.

A good place to go to the pix if you don't like other dix spoiling your enjoyement is the one at the Lowry Salford Quays. Last couple of times we've been there have only been a dozen or so people in a 500 seater so you don't have to be near anyone.
I guess either it will close or fill up with those BBC types

I usually wait a couple of weeks after release before going, and rarely go in the evening. And often go for the first screening of the day...rarely many people there then. Can't remember the last time I was sat close to anyone else (apart from my wife). Having said all that, even off peak it's expensive and we really pick and choose what we see. Most of the time we catch up with things on BR/DVD later...
Until cinemas crack down on the anti socials, they will continue to struggle...and put prices up. But cracking down is impossible without infringing human rights these days...

I think you might be thinking of Camden Palace (now Koko) at the end of Bayham Street which continues to be music/clubbing venue. Haven't been there since the uni days (brilliant times though...from what I can remember). The Odeon in question is on Parkway and to my knowledge has always been a cinema.

Dogs on strings there too.

Wish that was possible.
Tried that the scandalously priced Eden Project last year and got pulled up on the fact that it expired in 2008...I made some excuses about not bringing the new one.
