To flick at people trying to watch the film, obviously.

The OPs post is the very reason why 1996 was the last time I visited a cinema.

Terrible terrible places.

I don't know how cinemas stay in business? - whenever I've been they've always been empty.

I guess these days with big TV's and Dolby Digital audio setups there is no need to go to the cinema!

The business model has already changed.

With product placement, production companies can charge for items appearing within the film. You would have to be naive to think that torrent download figures are not quoted when touting for money for new films.

I hate cinemas myself I think the last time I went was to see Avatar.

I find them too expensive, the seats are usually rubbish to sit in as they have no leg room.

I just wait for dvd/blu ray releases now and enjoy them in the comfort of my own home.

You know what the problem is?

Don't go to those massive multiplexes. My local "art-house" cinema puts on all the films I actually want to see, doesn't have a problem with feral youth, and will sell you a reasonably priced beer, wine, or tea to take into the screen with you. Exceptionally civilised.

Wot?
Of course. It all makes sense now. It's all Cameron's fault. Oh, woe, why didn't I see that before? It's so blindingly obvious, I mean, he's a Tory, isn't he? Everything that ever went wrong in the whole world, nay, universe, is the fault of the Tories.

I found this the last time I went to see a film. I couldn't find the film I wanted to see (Senna) at any of the big cinemas near me but managed to find it showing at somewhere I hadn't heard of before. It turned out to be one of these cinemas with just a couple of screens with only 30 or so seats in each. The experience was so much better than going to my local Odeon.

I take my son to the cinema every so often. £10 for both of us to get in, relatively well-behaved audiences thus far, avoid getting ripped off at the popcorn counter by nipping into the co-op next door beforehand, reasonably comfy seat to have a snooze in during Pixar's latest meisterwerk.

So far, I have not been assaulted, verbally abused or otherwise inconvenienced.

As has been said, NEVER, EVER go on a Wednesday or a Friday/Saturday night showing before 10pm! I usually end up going on a sunday night when it's often myself and about a dozen others and everything is quiet. Went to the cinema last year more times then i think I'd been in the last 5 years.

and this is why i always go to the local arty cinema. No kids. Only sensible people. It has a huge bar with good beers, and i get free tickets. So much better than Cineworld/Odeon. I might have to wait a while for films, but i refuse to visit 'normal' cinemas.

[quote=HOGEPH]The advantages of watching films at home.

1) Stop the film when you need a pee/another bottle of wine.

2) You can drink wine whilst watching the film,

3) more wine,

4) more wine,

5) you can watch it again the next evening because you have no memory of the night before.

Late show ftw. Usually only a few people in so you can watch a film without a boatload of selfish s ruining the film for you.

Well the Empire cinema here is £8ish a ticket, has comfy seats and it's very rare we get any issues. They don't care if we bring our own food either.

Good rant, totally agree. Recommend going to an independent near you if possible, they tend to be much nicer (mine is far cheaper too) but admittedly smaller range of films available - although that usually means you have a choice of only good stuff rather than the usual ste.
