Eddie Mair is the greatest comic genius of our time and lifted PM into hitherto unexplored realms of real time satire mixed with serious reporting. Just sayin'.

I can't believe 198 longwave hasn't been mentioned yet. Three words.
Test.
Match.
Special.
Compulsive listening, and I hate cricket.

R4 is a very important part of my life.
I get a dread feeling whenever I hear about cuts and major changes at the BBC, however unlikely it is they would screw it up.
Whenever I travel and cannot get an internet version of R4 I am sad.

One thing I do enjoy on R4 are the plays/drama. For some reason I've always enjoyed drama on the radio - it just seems to work so much better than on TV, I suppose because you have to make more use of your imagination.

I enjoyed the play yesterday, I could see most of it in my head. Looking forward to hearing more. Listening to Woman's Hour at the moment.

Eddie Mair is a legend. Was the spat with Robert Peston real?
Humphries is a bit too aggressive when interviewing, to the point where his intervewees often can't get a word in edgeways. His interviewing style seems to be copied by the others on Today too. I like it when interviewees don't get away without answering a pertinent question but sometimes I feel it's arguing for the sake of it. At the moment my fav of that lot is Justin Webb who I feel strikes the perfect balance between pressing for an answer and not harrassing simply to earn another broadcasting award.
Some of the 18:30 comedy is excellent but some is utter cobblers. Very very few actually give me cause to smile. Just not funny. But the good stuff is proper Laugh Out Loud stuff.
I don't understand why The Infinite Monkey Cage is on in the afternoon. It would be perfect for the 18:30 slot.

I think it is absolutely brilliant, and I am constantly surprised by how much I can listen to them again and again. Someone above mentioned torrent site for BBC radio shows? We're not allowed to post torrent sites on here, but if someone were to send a private message that would be ok. Please, thank you.

Radio 4 has an A to Z archive with a vast store of old programmes to listen to. All episodes of "In Our Time" going back to 1998 are avilable, for instance.

I'd get so frustrated sometimes - I'd end up shouting at him to shut the heck up and let the guest/interviewee respond. When that didn't work I'd have to switch off.

Yes, I am not to keen on the Humphries style either, it always ends up too confrontational. Mair justs starts gently and subtly ridiculing the 'professional politician' answers and lets them vanish up their own a hole. Then he asks the question again and they are usually too exhausted to resist.

An excellent alternative when R4 have one of their dreary afternoon plays on is the BBC World Service.
Now I have a DAB radio in the garage it's normally on 3, 4, 4 Extra or World Service.

(actually I can...) I really liked the first two series but I've heard such a lot of criticism about his more recent output that I simply won't bother.
