More of a heads up at this stage, but this looks like one to watch when it does arrive in the UK.

It's written by Aaron Sorkin who, most recently, wrote The Social Network and has a strong track record of quality TV shows.

It reminds me of a movie called Broadcast News which is an excellent movie in itself so am looking forward to this.

Does look really good, really 'Sorkin-y' biggrin - though if it's an HBO show means it'll be on Sky Atlantic over here?

Another trailer has been released: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpKC50uFVQ0

I'm really looking forward to this now.

Just hope they keep it topical with current news events, which means Sky Atlantic need to broadcast it not long after it airs in the US.

I'm not really a TV person, and can count on half a hand the number of new shows I've actually looked forward to watching, but I have high hopes for Newsroom. I think The West Wing was one of the greatest pieces of TV drama ever written, and the main man - Aaron Sorkin is behind Newsroom.

Anyone know anything about it? Am I going to be disappointed? The trailer on Sky Atlantic looks good. thumbup

I was disappointed. His style worked well in the West Wing, but it doesn't quite ring true in this setting.

I'm looking forward to it. And the trailer does look good.
Two reasons, it's Hurt and it looks a bit like Network.

I think The West Wing is the best thing since sliced bread - I also liked Studio 60 though no-one else seemed to so I'm looking forward to this.

It's already set on the Sky planner, it's got good viewer reviews so I'm hopeful smile

Good good. Recorded it last night so will give it a watch tonight. If it is a fraction as good as the West Wing it will be excellent.

I enjoyed it. Very fast paced and lots to digest, certainly has a West Wing 'feel' to it. (created by the same people I think)

The first 45 mins were excruciating, what is it about Americans and Australians trying to build in suspense and drama into a dialogue when someone asks a question? Once the programme changes gear from it is pretty good.

IIRC it's on Anytime so you skip the super long adverts too.

Well it was as good as I hoped it would be. Loved his first speech, even if I thought the second bit was all crap.

Once the show got going it changed gears.

I just watched. You are right about the first 45 minutes. I guess they have to get that crap out of the way in the pilot.

I enjoyed it, its no West Wing but good none the less.

It isn't the back story, it is this crap (made up situation so not to spoil):

Bloke A "what's in this envelope?"
Bloke B "I..."
Bloke A "what is in this envelope??"
Bloke B "I can't tell you"
Bloke A "Why not"
Bloke B "Because I can't"
Bloke A "But you know what's in it?
Bloke B "Yes"

Repeat for infinity then repeat agin with the next three people bloke A meets. Thankfuly that crap ended after 45 minutes.

I thought the interaction between Hurt and his boss was great, the boss is a great character. The new lad was also good.

Yes the boss is great. Sam Waterston plays him, he was in Law and Order for years as well.

Although William Hurt (I'm guessing) isn't the lead character that's Jeff Daniels.

Sam Waterston is always very watchable wise cracking/wise ass characters is right up his alley, I can remember him Capricorn One.

If I had complaint it is Sorkins dialogue they all really speak with same voice just from another character's body. It's clever dialogue, Waterston and Daniels exchanges very good, but then the same roles were acted out again between Daniels and Mortimer, Daniels and his ex exec, and his ex exec and the new guy, all very sharp, witty dialogue, but is that all it is. I'd go as far as to say Josh Lyman from West Wing might be being channelled through Daniels ex-exec. It may need more than machine gun dialogue.
