That will still impact viewing figures which is what they base their re-newel of contracts on, not DVD sales.
You are shooting yourselves in the foot by streaming.
how?You are shooting yourselves in the foot by streaming.
I buy if i like and dont if i get bored after one episode... how they losing money on me?
OK, so it's US viewing figures, but how many US people are doing the same as some on here and watching them illegally, then moan when a series they like is canned?
In the US at least, I think the viewers watching directly on cable is dropping sharply, but the number watching online via whatever website, be it Hulu, or the like, nips on the rise. Digital viewing is taking over. Digital rentals have overtaken physical rentals as well. There was an open letter to the content providers written, somewhere I read once, and it was an excellent breakdown in why people pirate, and why it is up to the content providers to act not to stop piracy, but to make these things more palatable for the consumer. These is a reason people pirate. It is not simple because they want to rip people off. It is mainly, IMHO, because they are fed up of being ripped off themselves.

Because the continuation of a programme is based on viwing figures (as Ali-kat says in the US), not on DVD sales.

Ermm watching a TV programme from the USA in the USA that has already aired in the USA is not viewing it illegally (IIRC).OK, so it's US viewing figures, but how many US people are doing the same as some on here and watching them illegally, then moan when a series they like is canned?
I would imagine that the recording/streaming in the USA would go towards the viewing figures, a bit like using Sky+/iPlayer etc for the BBC etc does here.

Surely it depends on where it's being streamed from?I would imagine that the recording/streaming in the USA would go towards the viewing figures, a bit like using Sky+/iPlayer etc for the BBC etc does here.
As the Heretic says, illegal streaming in the US is on the rise, it maybe that the people that makes such things will just say bks and not bother anymore rather than the hassle of trying to appease to people who don't want to watch an advert or whatever.
I'm trying hard not to sounds like a grumpy old tt or get on a high horse or whatever, but I think by watching illrgally, here or in the US, you're shooting yourselves in the foot. Initally it'll be when the programmes you like are canned after 1 season. Eventually it'll be when proper paywalls go up or something and then everyone loses out.
Complaining that you're being ripped off doesn't wash, like all things, if you don't like the price then don't use/watch the product? It costs what it costs because that's what the market deems it to be worth. The cost to us, mostly (from what I can tell on these threads) is to sit through some adverts, hardly a hardship or extravagance is it?
Anyway, that's just my view on illegal downloads etc, if you don't like the price of something don't pay it and go without.
Now, back to the question that started my mini-rant (wasn't really a rant, just a discussion), when's this going to air in the UK.

No, streaming on Hulu, etc, is perfectly legal, just like watching via iPlayer is legal. Personally, I have tried (legal) streaming with the likes of LoveFilm and I didn't like it. It's like having the same quality picture and sound as a video from the '80's! What is the point? I prefer to buy the box set when it's available and enjoy the picture quality and DTS sound. Moreso with material with special effects galore.

Didn't you (or someone) say earlier though that to use Hulu, or similar, you need to go through a Proxy Server to hide you location, because the content is not for the UK, therefore illegal? (genuine question, I'm not being arsey). or is Hulu a site that allows UK streaming?AshVX220 said:

I watched Hulu in the US. It is illegal, (I think), to watch outside those territories. However, the info I gave about numbers is for the US. So, legal there.TheHeretic said:
A few holes, (the lights on the plane for one, but without them, you wouldn't see the multiple planes falling out of the sky in the distance). Planes in a flat spin as they have no control of their control surfaces? No idea on that one. It is a TV show, not a documentary. Bullets are not electrical, they are chemical. Whatever this thing is that stopped electricity from working would not affect bullets, or their manufacture. The internal combustion engine requires a spark. The shonky old PC works because she has a locket gizmo of electrical wonder. That is obviously the key.
The holes were not enough to put me off.
Watching e2The holes were not enough to put me off.
Without giving spoilers out
Holes start to be explained

But they can them based on USA viewing figures, not UK!
We were not 1/2way through S1 of Alcatraz when they announced it would be no more, USA was pretty much done & dusted.
Alcatraz turned boring as frak and predictable in two episodes. They don't do themselves any favours by stretching the story out with fodder for 13 episodes. We were not 1/2way through S1 of Alcatraz when they announced it would be no more, USA was pretty much done & dusted.
So, just found this thread, and I found it because I wanted to say.
The plot is ok, could be great, but I can very much see this going the way of 'flashforward' and 'the event' and 'jericho'.
And I can see it getting there even faster because that girl is so whiny and annoying.
Hope it gets better though.
