Well, given the film was an 18, that's not wholly surprising. wink

(Of course, that scene did beg an obvious question - why the arse-shuddering fk would you load an experimental weapons system with live ammo for a demonstration? I mean, really, what on earth would possess you to do that?)
Powerfully built directors hepped up on cocaine and with manginas of steel.

"Your client's a crumbag, you're a crumbag, and crumbags see the judge on Monday morning."

The ITV version is by far the funniest.

Why do they never remake crap films with great plots.

The last chase comes to mind. Never more true than in todays world of anti car nazis.

When Murphy gets blown away, it's pretty bad even now today.

I wonder if they will tone it down or go for an all out shock scene

I actually made a written complaint to ITV about the dubbing/cutting (they even cut words like dhead and it was on at 10pm ffs). Even more shocking, they wrote back in apology! I was young and keen then, though.

Anyone else got the 'Criterion Collection' with longer death scenes?

ED209 pulps that guy in the boardroom for about 5 seconds longer. The commentary has the director and someone else laughing about how many squibs and blood bags they strapped to the poor actor.

As a reboot it makes some sort of sense, the Robocop series only had one great movie, the first one, the second one had its moments and the third was pretty dire.

I can't see the point of simply remaking the first movie however. It's not as if it has aged that badly or had poor special effects.

You know they won't, and they haven't.
However the good thing about Predator is that it is not an origin story, it's wholly generic, and the original story is just one of countless in a long list of encounters with the Predator. The 'remake/reboot' was Predators a few years ago.
That was also one of it's charms.

It's because the financiers don't have any imagination so they just look at what made money the first time round and back remakes of them with the assumption that the same profits will be made the second time round.

It's all throroughly depressing.
yes sadly true
There's a nice little nod to that fact in the recent remake of 21 Jump Street...

It's pretty much a satirical look at the world of corporates and big business. These guys believe they're untouchable, and can essentially do whatever the hell they want - if something goes wrong, they'll just pay off the suits or make the problem go away a different way ("I had to kill Bob Morton because he made a mistake...")
