The original was so effective because of it's heavily industrialised look. You could almost imagine them making something just like it. This new version looks like a toy. They better not f**k up this remake! I've had enough of Hollywood raping my childhood!

They better not f**k up this remake! I've had enough of Hollywood raping my childhood! True dat... Remakes coming so far, Mad Max, Robocop, Highlander and Judge Dredd. Aside from the last, I very much doubt the remakes will capture the feeling of the originals...

The Beaver King said: Highlander Good grief! I loved Highlander when it first came out, and the biggest dissapointment for me in my cinematic history was going to see Highlander II. God, that just made me angry how much they'd ruined everything. Not sure if I could cope with some sort of remake there.

I think a remake could save Highlander. Loved the first one, it has that cheap 80s feel to it, like Terminator. But The bizarre sequel (immortals are actually aliens? wtf?). I recall a classmate trying to explain the story to me, and it sounded like he had just made it all up, but it was accurate. Then there was the lamentable TV series and cartoon.

Remakes/reimaginings aren't always a bad thing - Dawn of the Dead, Scarface, The Blob, Batman Begins, Death Race, King Kong etc

After reading the bit about the Highlander remake decide to google. Ryan Reynolds already signed on to play Connor, and Vinnie Jones (please no) or Ray Stephenson (big guy from Rome series and the Punisher) to play the part of the Kurgen. Don't know what's worse Ryan Reynolds with a Scottish accent or Vinnie Jones.....

OK the cast is starting t make it sound s t. Clancy and Christophe Lambere( ) were both ace in their respective roles. Three more remakes better that their originals? The Maltese Falcon, The Thing and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The last two both had third remakes which were poor.

Same here, Love Highlander, was stoked to hear about II, went to see it and :O not only the worst sequel ever but went some way to destroying the first movie entirely. Luckily most of my teen and 20's were put to use destroying my memory and I can watch Highlander just fine again now. Yes it was on a budget but some of the cinematography and fades are still excellent.

They better not f**k up this remake! I've had enough of Hollywood raping my childhood! I've gone full circle on this - from initial instinctive remake-horror, through apathy, back in to genuine excitement. I hold out decent hopes for this being pretty good, and word is it will be true to the satirical spirit of Verhoeven's, and also an R (or 18). And remember, the OmniCorp viral of ED-209 is supposed to be corporate advertising, and could just as easily be suggesting the difference between corporate promises and eventual reality, when ED-209 is revealed to be smaller and shonkier in the film.

Oh I like that sliver of hope. Nicely done sir.

Yep, it's one of those films that if I flick over to ITV4 or something and it's on, I have to carry on watching it. Thankfully I remember nothing of Highlander II apart from it being the biggest load of pants ever made, and I want it to stay that way.

Joel Kinnaman said: "It’s a re-imagining. There are ideas from the first movie that have been remade in the second one, but it’s a completely new take on it. We have a fantastic director, Jose Padilha he's a very confident, bold director. You need that kind of a strong force in a director that’s going to do his first movie with a big studio. You need a person that can stand his ground on certain things, and know which battles are worth fighting and where you compromise. If you’ve seen his movies, you know that he’s a very talented actor’s director. The acting is superb in his films, and the action is very, very believable. He also has a history of being a physicist. His knowledge of where robotics and neuroscience is now is a complete understanding of where the cutting edge is. He’s working with the writers on a plausible version of 2041, and that’s going to be very interesting. The core of it will be something of substance, and then you have the fireworks around it." Sounds mildly reassuring...

DJRC said: What Goddam f k was that about? ... as people said after coming out of the 3rd Matrix film. But in the context of this thread, I draw your attention to the 4th row. The joke being we pretend bad sequels didn't happen.
