I blamed it on the onions (even though we didn't have any!)

Nick Knowles does get the balance spot on with these shows.

I have been really down in the dumps recently but seeing this really made of appreciate what I have in my life. Lovely family hope he does ok. Those goalie gloves meant a lot to him didn't they.

The whole program has become a joke, you don't see any worthwhile building/design stuff any more, it's just become a load of sentimental slush.

You've really got the tone of this thread spot on there.

It's now the UK version of Extreme Makeover Home Edition but I have to say I enjoy it.

Very humbling in places and nice to see local communities getting together and helping out - Makes you proud to be British... Extreme Makeover is very good but just seems to be used as advertising these days for all the brands that have chipped in (normally Sears)

00:02 Knowles arrives looking smug, "This week we're in XXXXX"
00:05 Story undolds of tragic unfinished house extension due to death/impending death/cancer/heartbreak/asteroid/etc
00:07 video tour of house with no plaster and arcing elctrics
00:15 interview man-of-house
00:16 man-of-house finally cries, producer cuts tosomething else
00:20 interview with kids, don't seem bothered, but Knowles can cut through this
00:21 kids crying
00:38 the project looks doomed to failure as the concrete/roof/insulation/electrics/asteroid hasn't arrived yet
00:39 It's all ok, the stuff's come
00:48 plasterers are seen on camera trapping tiddles the cat behind some stud wall
00:55 The Big Reveal. reach for the Kleenex
00;57 Knowles looks smug and makes everyone cry. The kids are like Niagara Falls.
00:59 Big crowd outside, hooray, "Gawd, never thought we'd get ther" etc etc

There, you never have to watch one again, they're all the same

Excuse me for stating the truth. The program is a joke. Lost it's original point completely, now it's just self-indulgent maudlin trash. If you get off on that, well put on the violins and enjoy.

I enjoy watching this too, exactly the sort of things the BBC should be spending our licence fee dosh on instead of boring period dramas. Taking someone's life and making it a huge amount better. Similar to bex above I was feeling fed up but watching something like DIY SOS The Big Build puts things in perspective a bit - there is always someone worse off than yourself.

I also appeared to have something in my eye at the end of the most recent (Dumfries) one. Strange.

Tonight's is very sad but I have to say a low paid couple buy a 280 year old cottage and the husband isn't handy, they fall pregnant and sadly the child has difficulties.

Yes I know Nick will solve it but Christ if your skint and useless don't buy old houses!

It turned out to be a brilliant renovation. I'd been waiting for this to air as I'd read about it in the local paper at the time, its less than 10 miles from where I live. wink

I like Some of them, tonight's looks like a good one. Formulaic? Perhaps but better than much of the ste on and a good human angle to it too.

Yep, the families involved always look absolutely gutted.
