Seen it.
Initially I was a bit angry, but as the ad played through and I thought about it a little bit more I said to myself "That's totally what he'd do. He was such an avaricious bd." and then it didn't feel too bad any more.
I'm surprised by just how much closure we got in the end - everyone ended up where they wanted to be, more or less. Even Betty (in a way).

Well, I watched the last episode as screened on UK television tonight, so it's ok to discuss now. Although I will refrain from overt spoilers.
I'm going to need to digest that. It was nice that some major characters got their individual happy endings, and Betty ended up as being more relevant than expected.
Don's ending was suitably enigmatic.
Just like BSG, I'm glad it was allowed to end how the writer intended rather than being cut short or extended.

Yeah. I get you (man). Initially I was a bit angry, but as the ad played through and I thought about it a little bit more I said to myself "That's totally what he'd do. He was such an avaricious bd." and then it didn't feel too bad any more.

What's more, people ended up in a way that was totally plausible and in character.

My initial thought was that Don did not write 'the ad' and that he's the one who had found the 'real thing', i.e. being at peace with being Dick/Don and his past, and that 'the ad' was just the ad, not the 'real thing'.
Then I read my favorite TV critic Alan Sepinwall's take and 'Matthew Weiner explains (or not)'
Like the Sopranos, I'm happy with how the show ended.
Edit to add Jon Hamm's interview

I thought it was a good ending, and a positive one for everyone other than poor old Betty.
Even Roger looks like he might be about to settle down!
I didn't catch the name of Joan's company. Did she go it alone, or with someone else?
Can you believe it's been eight years?
I think that I read that Joan set up the company on her own, using her married and maiden names to create a double barrelled company name.Even Roger looks like he might be about to settle down!

Just watched it.
Nice. I think Don went back and wrote the Cola jingle (hate coke but that advert is good) since we learned that the door was still open for him. It was a fitting ending.
I think it was a mistake that thingy didn't go and become a partner with Joan though.

Hmmm will on the whole go down as very good TV but IMO lost what it had a while ago and this series just felt like it lacked any direction. Got a bit samey, big firm, gets bigger, go smaller, go bigger, go bigger still-how many times did this happen? Don getting on the straight and narrow, falling off the wagon etc-what was the deal with his brief love interest this season?
I thought more would have come and possibly being outted as being Dick-also the fact that Peggy had a kid never came back as an issue.
I think it was best when real historical events were worked into the story line.

I would agree. I am a massive Mad Men fan but maybe went a couple of series too long. Nice ending last night though, and still sad to see it go.
I am sure I will start watching the whole box set from the beginning once again before the year is out.
One problem I have is watching Jon Hamm in anything else. He just seems a little wet, and not very Don.

Talk of him being in The Walking Dead...possible since it's another AMC show. Their flagship now MM has finished.
Based on the photos printed earlier this year (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3022573/Jon-Hamm-steps-rehab-confession-puffy-eyes-near-Los-Angeles-home-Mad-Men-set-air-final-seven-episodes.html) he's been getting in to character.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
