4mins into a massively ambitious attempt to chronicle Britain and its people, starting with the Roman conquest we get Russell Brand, followed by a dodgy description of Celtic Angelsey as an al quaeda terrorist training camp. Dodgy. Especially if t t Brand is a regular!

Bored this afternoon just happened to see this on, Victorian London episode 6 of 7. Highlighting the Great Exhibition of 1851 in the Crystal Palace on Hyde Park, you'd think they'd get it right, but no. They have created a vast CGI Crystal Palace but not the one that was built on Hyde Park, but the Palace as it was when it was moved to South London and enlarged. This is the Hyde Park Crystal Palace. The one the programme uses is this one, enlarged with a curved roof down the spine of the building instead of flat roofed plus the extra curved section at one end (on the left). Yes, I'm bored.

Actually, that's quite a late picture of the Palace at Sydenham; When it was first rebuilt there following the closure of the Great Exhibition, it was extended to have "wings" at both ends of the building with transcepts to match the middle one, but one burned down and was never replaced. It was replaced by the aquarium at that end and thus the picture has only one wing, on the southerly end. My Grandfather stood and watched it burn to the ground in noveber 1936 and he used to get a little emotional talking about it; the Palace was a very special place to the locals.
Yep, I'm bored too ;0)
