I love Hilary, so down to earth and just tells it like it is. hehe Her comment about why not just go to Sainsburys and buy a box of half a dozen eggs from there in response the chicken coop pitch was superb. thumbup

Deborah Meaden really gets on my nerves. Her modus operandi is to repeat the other dragons criticisms in a nasty and aggressive way.

There's no way I'd deal with her. I think Peter Jones and Hilary Devey are the only two I could work with on a day to day basis. Not that I see myself going on DD any time!
Indeed, she is a hateful cow whose only "business acumen" as far as I can see is inheriting a campsite from her parents. If I went on DD and only had an offer from her, I would walk away on principle.

What she lacks in business acumen, she more than makes up for with her enthusiasm.

Exactly, on the red button follow up Theo say he invests in the person.

If I had the cash I'd invest in her website, it has so much potential.

WRT the shampoo people - the moment they said 'the large chemist chain'.
I thought Boots and they will get investment.
But I did like the way the director dropped that bomb shell and the follow up q & a's - 'did you pay for those? No.'
The Dragons were always going to invest in a business that had proved themselves.

But I was surprised that they gave out the figured - cost price, wholesale price and retail price - wouldn't that stuff be best discussed off air?

I've often wondered about this too, as in their position, would not be happy quoting costs, etc. Perhaps they give the correct figures/costs off screen and, made-up figures for the cameras? They did have a very bankable product though and, think it a first for DD when they are asked which Dragons they would like to work with.

I don't get the presenters. Why do they not have a cheat sheet on the table, with the necessary numbers on in case of the dreaded 'blank'?

Because it supposedly makes good telly watching them make complete fools of themselves.

Imho, the reason the Asian team conveniently "forgot" their figures was because their profit and loss figures would have been far more ugly from year end to year end and they would have been laughed out of the door even quicker than they were. And she was ultra annoying too.

Someone should point out to Hilary that she can get Canesten over the counter for that itchy toe of hers. tongue out

Well I suppose that makes sense in the world of TV - not so much in the world of business.

Not only is it not allowed under the rules but it also makes good sense. If someone does not know their own basic info then most investors wont touch them so it shows at least they understand the basics of their business.

Also, there is a lot of discussion of figures off air prior to any investment so you are not really required to know to the greatest detail but you should know the most salient figures. Why some people still insist on going in without it is beyond me but they are normally fun to watch I guess.

It's as if people have never watched the show before!

Pretty sure they are going to ask you for turnover, profit, debt, unit cost etc.

Even without swotting up on your answers beforehand, you should still know all these figures if you run your own company. I suspect, as has been said, a lot of them know the figures but don't want to reveal them because they are so terrible.
