Also, that cladding system was superb.
I loved that. Might have to look into it for myself one day.

The Architect is my partners brother so we found it quite interesting to watch and see the slant that was taken by the shows producer...

The original architect, or the 'save the day' architect?

Was the tale portrayed correctly?

If I have read the tone of the post correctly, I'm going with the original Architect, and the depature was quite as portrayed by the program.

The use of 'slant' makes me wonder.

I didn't like it.

I didn't like their attitude, nor their comments about the neighbours and the neighbouring properties, many of which, I thought, looked far better than the end result.

I also thought that it stole some of the river views from next door.

I feel very sorry for their neighbours.

The old building projected much further out towards and over the river than the neighbours - I can't imagine it would have received planning consent to go further than previously.

I loved the house design and engineering! However I understand where the neighbours are coming from, but there is a time where pastiche house look even worse!

The price of those ceramic tiles on the outside OUCH!

Just a horrid monstrosity in such a location.

I only caught the last 10 mins or so, but did those windows fade out? As I think a nice evening shower would be like flashing the whole river!??

I really liked it - the neighbouring properties were no less monstrous and the thing they demolished was horrific. What a wonderful house to live in.

Bolney Road, Shiplake on Thames if anyone is wondering where it is. Google maps show the original building quite clearly.

I thought there was every chance that what the woman (couldn't make up my mind whether I liked her manner or not) said was correct - that in the future more and more of those properties will be replaced, it was just that theirs is the first,

I am sure I recognise the fella - from the Oil and Gas game.
I was certain I knew him. Just looked him up and he was MD of a competitor company to one I worked for in the mid-90's. IT industry, but might have sold into oil & gas.

I liked it.

I don't get all this "not in keeping with surrounding area" rubbish. Neither was St. Pauls Cathedral when that was built.

O/T. Did anyone else record GD Australia this week and end up with a random old episode of the normal GD.

Looks like a mobile home, with a driving range on the balcony and a strip club in the basement.

If it were me I'd have built a nice bungalow in that gap with a bit of shrubbery to blend in. The idea would be quite the opposite, to be tucked away and only noticeable to those who looked.

I thought it was st.

Looked like stacked portacabins, bleak inside, colour changing LED's everywhere (chav lighting), plastic grass.

It was totally out of place, and different doesn't mean modern or good.

That's going to be a hard house to sell if they ever wanted to:

Esate agent: "This is the wonderful house that featured on Grand Designs"
Buyer: "Oh, the one that all the Neighbours hate and spent 3 years trying to block the building permission? Sounds great, we'll make lots of friends here!"

I quite liked it too. Not a fan of the stacked boxes look (as per the last one) but the details looked pretty impressive. Those exterior tiles look fantastic, and I loved that view from the room at water level which looked out over the river. That'd make a cracking office, perhaps without the horrid lighting.

The neighbours all struck me as the type who'd complain irrespective of what went up there anyway. Wouldn't be my way of spending £1.2m but they seemed pretty smitten with it, more power to them.
