XFM have signed Chris Moyles for their breakfast show

Anyone know how good XFM's coverage is outside London?

This has just made me very happy, I just really hope I will be able to listen to it somehow. I was only thinking the other day how much I still miss his show (I was was listening to an inane breakfast show the other morning and started reminiscing!! I really enjoyed hearing him again on British Bake Off. Keeping fingers crossed.

Just been looking at their website, they're on DAB and also have an app for all phones, I've just downloaded it for my windows phone. wink

Apparently they are on:

London 104.9 FM / Manchester 97.7 FM / Paisley and Renfrewshire 96.3 FM
Sky channel 0113
Virgin Media channel 960

It's on DAB as well in some places (try your postcode here - http://www.ukdigitalradio.com/coverage/postcodesea...). I can listen to them via DAB at work but not at home.

Will be interesting to see what he comes up with. I listened to Chris Moyles for years but I couldn't tolerate his show towards the end, although that was more down to the c**p music Radio 1 serves up than Chris himself! Went over to R2 instead.

No idea what the head of R1 was thinking when they took on they mindless idiot Grimshaw ....

He was thinking "Would everyone over the age of 25 please f*** off somewhere else?" I think he even said that was his intention, regardless of the drop in listeners.

So, has he patched his differences with 'Comedy' Dave? Obviously a good offer to pursuede him out of 'retirement'!

I was sad when they ditched him for Grimshaw, but I think now I might have moved on. I'm happy with a mix of Evans and O'Connell in the mornings. What I'd like is for Radio 2 to scrap Wright and Mayo in the afternoon for some new blood, and was hoping for someone like Moyles there. I'll give him a listen in the morning when the new show starts, but think his time might have passed.

I've just seen that he is a "judge" on X-Factor. WTF does he know about "talent"?

Glad I don't watch it, but if I did, I'd now have a reason not to.

And they never provided anywhere for those listeners to go.

R2 is still aimed at mid-40s+.

That would be ok, if the BBC provided somewhere for those over 25, but under 45, to f*** off to...

Well they did: 6 Music.

It's just a shame it's not on FM.

Since Moyles I've migrated to podcasts. It's been great actually and I've learned a hell of a lot. smile

I quite like listening to Simon Mayo on the drive home (except Fridays!) but not so fussed about Steve Wright any more, even though I used to listen to him on R1 back in my teenage years. I suspect Chris Moyles may be similar - great the first time round but a bit stale now.

Indeed.

It's a pity the BBC don't start allocating budgets to each station based on the listener numbers for their breakfast shows ... biggrin

I know some like Moyles on here, but I was never a fan and he seems an odd choice for XFM.

I would tolerate Grimshaw if he wove more new music into the playlist that had a bit of edge. But instead, it's perpetually safe, bland, top-20 fare, the radio equivalent of eating flour, the intellectual equivalent of counting peanuts in one's own st.

Grimshaw has a rare and almost indefinable quality, coming across as trying too hard, whilst simultaneously seeming like he can't be arsed.

As much as I love to st on Grimshaw that's not his fault. Radio one have an A, B and C approved playlist and the DJ's have to play certain tracks from those lists.

One of the people who constructs those lists is producer Aled from Moyle's show (who I always thought added nothing to the show anyway) so that might point as to why it's so st

I don't mind Simon Mayos show but can't stand the Friday show where the general public phone in thinking everyone else is in the least bit interested in their weekend plans.

Never found the fascination with Chris Moyles. I've never found him or his sidekicks remotely funny. I've tried to like Chris Evans as I don't think he is a bad person, but his broadcasting style just irritates after about 15minutes. And Steve Wright should have been pensioned off long ago.

I end up tuning into Radio 5 or Radio Scotland in the morning now. (Must be getting old). I would listen to Radio 6 in the car, if i had digital there, which I don't.

Yes, I suppose I'm being critical of 'Nick Grimshaw' as a BBC radio show rather than as an individual. But Radio 1 sold his arrival as a champion of new bands and acts, someone who might look a little deeper than the fluffy pop flotsam floating around the surface. It turns out there's more depth in a Kraft cheese slice.

He's now an X factor judge isn't he? Young gigging bands starting out, or budding DJs and producers must be thrilled he's supporting a karaoke talent show looking for plastic people with lovely hair.

Yeah fully agree, I think R1 are desperate to be edgy and cool still without realising that to the youth of today even Radio itself is outdated and fogeyish

Why would you listen to their choice of music interspersed with that speaking when you have 5 mates suggesting Spotify playlists a day
