Getting caught was good, I also like the fact he needs others to help him, like his new sidekick

It's a series based on a comic superhero, on that basis, it's not cheesy.
Compared to something like Hunter, then yes it is. It needs to be treated in context, but I think I know what you mean.

It's on the BBC, bit like Spooks, worth a butchers IMO.
Really enjoying what is a comic book tv show.
Although CW it's grittier than Smallville, probably a Dark Knight legacy.
The story on the Island owes quite a lot to Andy Diggle - another British Comic book writer working for the American big two - "Green Arrow: Year one" comic book series.
Arrow drops the Green part, but it's faithful without any reference to super powers, reminds me in many ways of Person of Interest.
Laurel Lance, is Dinah Laurel Lance, in the comics Green Arrow's on off Girlfriend / Wife aka the Black Canary, in comics she has a supernatural scream that can kill, but the word is no super powers in Arrow.
Also rumoured is a Wonder Woman show from CW too - that one maybe more like Smallville ie concentrate on the teen agnst years.
Green Arrow dates back to the early 40's and is one of few survivors from the golden age.

He went to see the Russians, they said they would check him out and if he checked out would tell him but if he didnt would kill all his family blah blah
Therefore by implication that they told him he must have checked out no?
I dont put too much thought into it but that was my take on it

Given Disney's acquisition of Marvel with it's brilliant joined up movie-verse and the possibility of similar approach to Star Wars ie stand alone movies Plus ensemble stories for that Franchise Time Warner really needs to get it together.
Arrow shows it can be done - plus I think there is mileage in close relationships between TV / Web / Movie franchises. Marvel is again ahead with a TV show spin off based on SHIELD from the Avengers.
