Thanks for sharing!
That is pure genius. And frighteningly accurate.

Woah woah woah... are you suggesting that in 30 years time when they see the trailer for "Fast & Furious 67 Blue Badge Discrimination" that they won't get misty eyed???
Well, maybe that.

And twilight, obviously.

Goes without saying. "Twilight Part 4 - subplot 97 - Denture Departure"

Tingles and a bloody tear in my eye - can't believe how that's got to me so much. Very excited ... I was 14 when Star Wars was released, I'm as excited now at 52. Hopefully the last 3 can be forgotten at long last smile
It hits you right in the guts.

I was 6 & my husband was barely born & we had a similar reaction if that makes you feel any better? biggrin

39 here and had exactly the same effect. My kids thought it was most amusing to see their dad get all teary eyed over some old bloke and a walking carpet...

I feel sorry for them as I can't think of anything that has come out in their lifetime that could possibly generate the same response so many years later.
i'm 47 and saw the first when I was ten, with my Dad and 8 year old brother. I'll be seeing it with nine and six year old sons and a four year old daughter. They're already excited, but I can't help feeling that with all the stuff they see all the time, they'll never experience the excitement I felt when that first Star Destroyer passed overhead at the beginning of Star Wars.

I'm 30 and spent the whole of my childhood watching them. Wish I could have seen them for the first time at the cinema. Very excited!

My deagostini Millennium Falcon will only be half built by then too biggrin

I'm 45 and have seen every film at the cinema as it was released.

I remember the whole family going to see "Star Wars: A New Hope" (or, as it was called then, "Star Wars") and I'd have been 8. Even my mum enjoyed it and said that it was "a modern fairy tale". smile

Like many others here, I saw the original Star Wars in 1977 at a now-built-over cinema in Birmingham when I was 8 years old.

As my parents drove me home along the Bristol Road, I looked up at the night sky with a sense of utter wonder. I was hooked. It totally changed my outlook on everything. Before, I had "couldn't care less" about TV but after that night, I was hooked. I'm sometimes surprised I never went into working in TV/films, or at least became a critic.

And the thing is, the original trilogy has aged pretty well because there wasn't an obvious reference to technology we understood, or were ever going to have. Anti-grav speeders, lightsabres... they're impossible. We know it, so they don't age. CRT screens are no more in our world, so scenes in sci-fi films that are reliant upon them have dated now (I'm thinking of the Russians' ship in 2010 - even though I love that film anyway).

The prequels... well, the dodgy CGI, poor characters and poor dialogue made them impossible to consider in the same light and are already dated and dull. They do not warrant repeat viewings.

This new film - well, I'm excited. It's obvious JJ Abrams is a proper fan and in that 1 minute trailer he has captured everything that made the originals timeless.

Buzzing here. Bring It On..!!

Based on that screenshot it is a bit tricky to tell. I reckon it's upside down? Certainly a different one to the first shot.
Not the Executor obviously, as we know what happened to that, but probably the same class?

A pretty good match for the underside of this model?

Yes. I think that sort of leap forward of how to tell stories was a special time. I think perhaps Jurassic Park was the next leap where new tech had a genuine effect on how to enhance a story to what it should be. With the rise of CGI (cheap cgi) since then, I cannot think of another point. In fact, for me, great tech in films now goes back in time to old-school models and the like.

Also of course we had three/two (I don't know, too young) channels and only hymns and the Walden interview (I remember him) on SUndays...it's a different world and this film will be on DVD in 12 weeks. And not repeated on every Christmas morning in the 80s for people to grow up with.

I can remember a clip of the X-Wing attack on the Death Star being shown on Tomorrow's World just before Christmas '77 and thinking how beautiful it all looked on the screen, seeing it in the cinema just after Christmas was mind blowing. For the first time in donkey's years I'm actually looking forward to seeing a new film.

Still got my souvineer booklet from the cinema, it cost a whole 50p!

Oh yes, Bwyan Warden.

They'll never know the astonishment of the first video we hired in this Netflix age.
