I'm 45 and have seen every film at the cinema as it was released.

I remember the whole family going to see "Star Wars: A New Hope" (or, as it was called then, "Star Wars") and I'd have been 8. Even my mum enjoyed it and said that it was "a modern fairy tale". smile
You and me both Jon (8yrs old then)

Was the first film I ever saw in a cinema - talk about an introduction to the big screen.

Oh! So a PC then. winkevil
yes

Such a shame as that'll probably be the only time that engine is running on a pc smile.
It says below the trailer that it is coming out on PC, PS4 and XBone.

Movie event of the decade incoming, cant wait, seeing Han Solo and Chewbacca in the three second snippet was very powerful and I am not even a massive Star Wars geek. I do love the original three films and this looks like the genuine article after the shiny disappointments they foisted on us, someone mentioned the griminess and that is absolutely what I loved about them, made it all the more plausible and immersive, used, battered, scorched and covered with dust.

Saw this as well for the PS4 this morning,

It looks utterly jaw dropping.
I'll get this for PC if only just to revel in the soundtrack and noises.

Just watched that trailer yet again and I still get a tingle when Han Solo and Chewbacca appear. What's wrong with me, I'm 53 this year hehe

Growing older is unavoidable, but growing up is optional (and to be resisted). smile

Eeek.

Flashback to that Need for Speed film I watched on Amazon (free trial) Prime the other week. Shudder.

This could be better than the main film, a story about how the Rebels gained the plans for the Death Star cool
Isn't that the first level of Dark Forces?

It says at 10 sec in "Game Engine Footage" which I took on face value but I suspect it is actually rendered on some mega spec dev system or Ninja SLI PC and not a PS4, hence why it looks so good.

Oh well, might be time to replace my trusty Tesco Medion PC from 2007, my son bought GTA5 and was a bit upset it only runs at 800 by 600, to be fair, everything else apart from one other game, whose name escapes me has been fine.

I'd love to know the thought process that led to this comment.

My middle son was only 3 when we took him to see some other film at the local cinema.

The 20th Century Fox music started and he shouted out excitedly "Daddy! Star Wars!".

Unfortunately, a lot of games these day don't get released on the PC.
When they do, they're often quick ports released months after the console version.

I hope that's not the case, I was merely commenting on the fact that someone would go out to buy a PS4 based on the footage shown, which is of course just rendered on a very heavy machine, possibly taking hours per frame.

Still have a horrible feeling that the movie will be garbage. The problem with the newest three was that the lacked soul. Chucking in the original cast won't fix that.

And you know what the JJ in JJ Abrams stands for?

Firstly, that engine already exists on PC in one form or another. It's the same engine that's been used for Battlefield 3 and 4, amongst others.

Secondly, what major game, that isn't a Sony or MS exclusive, hasn't been released on PC at the same time as its console counterpart? Especially EA games. GTAV is possibly one but that's par the course for Rockstar.

Lastly, that trailer is running on the in game engine in real time. DICE have come out and said it looks like that, as have a number of other media outlets who have played it.

I'll eat my pants if it actually looks like that on consoles though.

Perhaps. But George Lucas is an awful director and not a particularly good writer either, and he was so powerful that anybody who dared tell him "George, you're making a metric fktonne of st here" during the prequels was summarily sacked.

At least Disney have a track record of making superb films that engage audiences across the age range, of contracting very talented writers and directors, and of producing some really great stuff.

I'm no fan of "creation by committee" - sometimes you need the singular vision of one person. But that person is not George Lucas.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this film.

Didn't JJ Abrams refuse to be involved in any more SW films as a result of a conflict of opinions with various Disney staff?

First I heard of that. Anyway, I was talking about George Lucas. Hence my use of "George Lucas" and not "JJ Abrams"
