Am I the only one that preferred Abrams Star Trek to the boring originals? The only Shatner one I enjoyed was the silly one with the whales and all the Stewart ones were utterly tedious.
Nope, I agree, I much prefer the reboot movies (The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country being by far the best of the older movies), but then I also prefer the original series to any Star Trek that came after."We come in peace, shoot to kill"
It's a bit weird that JJ won't direct the next installments of this new run of films. I guess there are too many! Disney milking it much?
Shocked to see that the phantom menace was the highest grossing, but perhaps not if adjusted for inflation. That fact does not send the right message to the studio bosses IMO - they know that people will queue around the block for any old schlock with the Star wrs brand attached.

I enjoyed the new ones but didn't know much of the originals (TV or film)
I just can't stand the idea of the new Star Wars being a tried and tested vehicle for Disney. We want an original story, with brand new I AM YOUR FATHER moments.... not a 'reboot' of the original, which I'm now sure we're going to get. The studio will have seen how well the new Treks have done and asked the nerd friendly Abrams to do that again.
I hope I'm wrong.
You do realise that it is already very well known that this is not a reboot?. I just can't stand the idea of the new Star Wars being a tried and tested vehicle for Disney. It is a continuation of the original trilogy. (Calling it Episode 7 should give that away). Yes it has new characters but Han, Leia, Chewie etc are all there telling a new story 30+ years after the event's of Return of the Jedi.
No clue why you seem convinced it's a reboot considering all that has been revealed so far.

I think he's meaning "reboot" in the sense that similar plot elements from New Hope look to be included. It is a continuation of the original trilogy. (Calling it Episode 7 should give that away). Anyway, reboots can have the same characters and/or different ones, same plot and/or different ones. There does not seem to be any rules except these days it is to ensure that all of the recognisable pieces of a brand are included, and if you can't get them in the first film, get them in the second one.
