I loved it. I'd give it a 9/10. My gripes were it was immediately obvious what was going to happen to Han Solo when we learnt who Kylo Ren was. I thought Carrie Fisher just seemed rough unfortunately. There was perhaps a little too much nostalgic stuff and scenes that were carbon copies of scenes from the original trilogy. I thought Rey was weakly acted in her first few scenes but got better after that (which is strange as it is unlikely to have been filmed in that order. I was disappointed when Kylo Ren revealed his face as he instantly became less sinister - but this was rectified when he killed Han. It was sad to lose Han but it means I now hate Kylo Ren and he is a proper villain.
Other than those I thought everything else was brilliant. The filming, script, jokes, soundtrack, transitions, cgi etc was all proper Star Wars.
Don't click above if you have not seen the film (although why would you be in here) it contains plenty of plot spoilers. I've given the film 9/10 though.

Not really though. Vader got flung off into space at the end of 4 instead of clearly dying etc. And at the end of 5 Han was frozen and they had to go rescue him which didn't happen until 6.
Star Wars is a complete film, Vader is just a henchman that survives, that happens in films, the big baddie and his weapon is destroyed and the whole story arc is complete. There's a better argument for Empire, which was written to be a second act, but even then that act closes on the events and there is a feeling of closure with Vader, and Lando setting off on a new quest.
THe new one's prime directive is find Luke, which is done at the end of the film and then...fade to black, no closure! It's left hanging! The baddies also all say, 'let's meet up' but there is no rounding up of that story, because it would reveal too much I guess.

It's a tricky balancing act.
On one hand they need closure which they got - found Luke, destroyed the super weapon.
They left enough open that we will come back, what does Luke do next, what does the 1st order do?
I hope they give it a rest with superweapons, and get onto relationship/interaction stuff. On one hand they need closure which they got - found Luke, destroyed the super weapon.

The film makes it all seem like it's about the superweapon (DS, SK) when really, the Empire/First Order is still many worlds strong with it's resources.

Well it isn't for you, but it is for me..... A minor one that stopped the film from being perfect and made it just very, very good.
A minute ago you said it was the main issue, and now it's only minor? The point is, it's not a one off film. Going into this film, you know there will be two more, so why did you watch it thinking I hope it feels like a one off when it was never supposed to?
That's like me going to watch a horror, and then coming out disappointed because it wasn't funny enough.

Yes that is right the main issue is a minor one. One that stops it from being perfect. The point is, it's not a one off film. Going into this film, you know there will be two more, so why did you watch it thinking I hope it feels like a one off when it was never supposed to?

I think Halbs comments summarises my thoughts very nicely. If you can't understand it then you probably shouldn't worry about it.

I agree. When will the The film makes it all seem like it's about the superweapon (DS, SK) when really, the Empire/First Order is still many worlds strong with it's resources.
Snork "right lads, I've got an idea. Let's build a star destroying weapon out of this planet. Put in a trench, they look good, an obvious weakness and an easy to bypass defense"
Snork "oh, and send some stormtroopers for re-training, I noticed some hitting the targets last week"
Hux "um, do you recall what happened to last two superweapons we built"
Snork "who is supreme leader around here, huh?"
Mind you, I always wondered why the rebels didn't just drop into the last 200m of trench on the first Death Star. Or actually come at it from space as it seemed to be mounted on the surface not on the wall of the trench.

I think Halbs comments summarises my thoughts very nicely. If you can't understand it then you probably shouldn't worry about it.It's a third of a story so you thinking it's not perfect because that third doesn't feel like a standalone whole is a bit strange.
That the originals may not have been designed that way but ended up that way is irrelevant - these three have been a trilogy from the moment they were announced.

Loved it. Seen it twice.
The first time I must admit to being a bit distracted counting the many times it seemed to borrow heavily from episodes 4-6. At times it almost felt like a reboot.
Second time I just thoroughly loved it. A great film and a very welcome (and necessary) return to form for the franchise.
And I loved how kids just love Star Wars like almost no other franchise (perhaps Harry Potter). So many kids turned up in costumes.
This film was a real event for me unlike anything at the cinema in a long while and it lived up to the hype. Loved it

Anyone got an Imax 3d review?
As someone who detests 3D I rather enjoyed it. Some of the faster moving scenes and CGI were a bit blurry to my eyes. I can't tell whether this is the IMAX 3D or the actual film, but several of the CGI models seemed to be not scaled properly. The AT-AT and the Tie Fighter during the escaped looked at lot smaller than expected from previous films. I'm a big 3D fan (never used to be, hated it at first!) but I don't feel it brought much to this film (which I really enjoyed) And I was watching in an IMAX cinema (albeit a little one)
That said, there was one shot of a stationary Star Destroyer that looked incredible and probably wouldn't have the same impact in 2D.
