This was one of the elements I was a little worried about going in but I think they actually just about managed to pull it off. Han's "it's true" speech is more about Luke and the fact that he has been missing for over 40 years. Rey's "I thought Luke Skywalker was a myth" statement is what prompts Han's response and in that context it's a bit more believable.

8.5/10 for me.
Better than the prequels, probably over all about as good as ROTJ, not as good as ANH & Empire being by far the best of the lot.
The new cast members were great, in particular Daisy Ridley, who completely stole the show.
I'll need to watch it again in 6 months or so (whenever it comes out on Blu-Ray) but I can't help thinking it's not much more than a rehash of the storyline of A New Hope with a few bells & whistles added. I'm thinking episode VIII will be better than The Force Awakens.
The new cast stole the show, and that surprised me. The casting director deserves a raise!
Really??? I didn't think Rey was upto much in terms of acting.

Weird how different people see different things, I thought she was one of the best things in it.

It is. They should have called it 'New Rey of Hope' smile

Hmmm.

Name for the next film,

The First Order Strikes Back.

Then finally,

The Return of the Return of the Jedi.

People are getting fed up of remakes of the same name, so just remake them but with different names now hehe

Only Hollywood could be so cunning wink

It is one of the weaknesses of the new film and the main thing that knocked a couple of points off for me, Disney should have had more faith in the franchise IMO and had the courage to not just remake ANH. I think the prequels made them crap themselves about getting it wrong though and £4b is a LOT of money to gamble with.

Saying all that, I still had a great time with the film so I can forgive some plagiarising when I am having this much fun.

Knowing quite a bit about the film, spoilers included, and the fact it's a bit of a remake, I still want to go see it at the cinema more than ep1-3!

And I'm sure it's still good too.

I just hope they deviate a lot more with the next two and take some risks. Playing it safe will net them money, but imo finally put the nail in the coffin for the 'fans'

Unless they get a massive backlash over this one, I very much doubt Disney will stray too far from the tried and tested, they aren't exactly a company renowned for taking risks and they are in it to make money after-all, not just to please fans. In fact I could probably guess a loose summary of what the next two will be like. Slight disappointing as that sounds, I think they'll still be infinitely more watchable than the prequels.

I think the one off films they will be making in the intervening years may be a bit more daring.

I thought she was great too, the star of the film, held it all together brilliantly

I just watched the 'everything wrong with' videos on YouTube for the prequels. God they were awful! I'd forgotten just how awful.

Exactly. Anyone who wants to gripe about plot holes, coincidences or the fact that the new one is essentially a greatest hits "Now that's what I call Star Wars" needs to sit the fk down and sit through the ABYSMAL drivel of "The Phantom Menace" and then give thanks

I think this time round, they just wanted to get a solid film out to lay the foundations for the next movies and TV series. Serious pressure to deliver episode 7 after the farce of 1-3.

I think you'll find delayed to get the Xmas merchandise market a more reasonable assumption...

Not at all. They've had to rewrite significant bits based on people's reactions to both Daisy Ridley and the guy who plays Finn

By moving to Xmas they're now going head to head with Avatar 2. I doubt they would have done that by choice. I'm guessing one of those films moves.
