The middle part of a trilogy is normally the weakest, since you don't get a definitive beginning or end, but I love Empire. Everyone remembers the "I am your father" moment, but the realisation that there is also someone Darth Vader bows to must have been pretty surprising at the time
Completely, I remember seeing them first time round and it was like 'wooah, who is this shadowy person....?'

I attempted to glean as much information from whatever sources we had at the time - which were extremely limited at the time. Annuals, comics etc.. held a little more information sometimes than the films themselves or displayed the information in a slightly different way. smile

A lot of the interesting Fett stuff was in the extended universe books. In the EU his Mandalorian armour gives him enough protection to escape the sarlac pit and continue bounty hunting.
Why of course it did....

Yeah. I was very young, but I was a member of the Lucasfilm fan club, we used to get loads of cool info in the post. Don't think I own any of that stuff anymore now, or any of my Indy/SW comics sadly. I can recall some really great stories.
I can recall that Fett (and others) were very popular back then. I had the figure. biggrin

Oh yes! I had two Boba Fett figures (the first got mauled by our dog a bit...) speeder bikes, Gamorean Guards, Stormtrooper, Biker Scout, AT ST and so on.. smile All 3 Annuals - I think we've still got the Annuals and my Panini ROTJ sticker book (complete of course)

I still think the scout trooper (and associate speeder bike) are two of the coolest Star Wars things. I remember playing with those toys for hours.

Although I always wondered how the hell they manoeuvred those things so well and who the hell thought it was a good idea to have flying bikes going through a forest full of very large trees at 300mph. OK Luke is a jedi so has super slick reactions\forewarning thanks to the force but what about everyone else?

I have always assumed the speeders had their own guidance/crash protection system that anticipated the trees, taking the skill out of the hands of the riders..

That doesn't sound right? What about the one's that did crash?

Didn't the speeder bike toy explode? I vaguely remember them being a sod to put together.

I always thought Boba was cool. I remember I had Slave 1 and all my mates had Millenium Falcons

Well, obviously they're not perfect - probably on a par with Mercedes crash avoidance software! hehe

It was spring loaded - three parts.. The bottom part - the engine and legs, top (mostly just the seat) and the front 'forks'... They could be a bit of a pain to put together and also never ever seemed to stand up on their own!!

The front was chopped off was it not?

And the other was bumped at the last minute? (IIRC)

Not yet confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm but it is claimed that Alden Ehrenreich has been chosen to play the young Han Solo in the second standalone 'Star Wars Story'.

http://www.empireonline.com/movies/star-wars-force...

The film currently has an expected release date of 25 May 2018 but I wouldn't be surprised if it is pushed back to Xmas 2018.

That's two of them but the third one crashed because the Scout Trooper glanced back to make sure he wasn't being followed and smashed into a tree IIRC. I'm sure I read some bumf once that seemed to suggest that only a small number of troopers had the reactions to be able to ride speeder bikes hence the scouts being an elite unit but I could be mistaken.

Don't forget the one that the Ewoks lassoed and then it wound itself round a tree (iirc)

I will never understand the love for ROTJ, and some even putting it above Empire. granted, the space battle was second to none at the time, and Han Solo was great as usual. But this was offset with the feeling I was watching Muppets/Fraggle Rock in Space! I watched this at the cinema when a teenager, and being quite underwhelmed by the Jabba's palace muppets and Ewoks, who were clearly just children in teddy bear outfits (with expressionless faces). For me personally, this is the least watched of the original trilogy.
couldn't agree more, the space battle of Endor was probably the best sequence of all 3 originals for me, the only reason I watched ROTJ.
Me too, I had been waiting for this film for what felt like eons. I saw esb and star wars at the cinema in a double bill, aged 5! (I had nagged my parents daily after seeing the trailers for Empire)I was blown away by it (i was an odd 5 year old).

By the time I got to see Jedi I was a fair bit older, i felt a bit deflated by it, it tied everything up and was nicely made but absolutely no match for Esb.

Having see all three as adult, it's the same result ESB is just head and shoulders above the other two
