Mixed feelings. Star Wars was always really a kids movie with elements for adults to enjoy. The new ones were nowhere near as good as the originals but they do have some strong moments.
Disney/Pixar can do kids movies that work for adults as well.
I think we will either see something expanded Universe style with no current characters or more likely a re-boot type approach with Han/Luke etc played by different actors. It's not done Batman any harm.

Why not call it The Firefly Strikes Back...
that is a cracking shout actually...Jackson or Nolan for me...
any new eps need to ahve the right mix of light and dark, fantasy and sci-fi...
both have a track record in this.
Fillion was cool in Serenity and would make an ideal "son of solo"
lol.
My older brother has welcomed this news as he feels it will give him the opportunity to revise his highly acclaimed role as a Place Guard in Episode One:
If it all goes tits up then he feels he is still set for a massive pay day as the value of his own very rare action figure will go through the roof

I can see your point, although Batman was a comic long before it was on the big screen, so has never just been about one actor. I'd love to see a Rogue Squadron film, but admit that's pretty unlikelyThere's nothing to say when a new film will be set, just because the episode numbers indicate it should take place after ROTJ. Personally I'd love to see a series of films between Ep3 and Ep4, showing how Palpatine builds up power, how Darth hunts down the remaining jedi and how the alliance builds up (If you're reading Mr Disney).

And inversely id like to see an 'old republic' film with some massive sith vs jedi epic battles. For me, the biggest problem with the 6 films has been the weakness of the main character - both young and adult Anakin, and then Mark Hamill. Compare them to their colleagues - Ewan MacGregor, Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman, Alex Guiness, Harrison Ford, etc.
I look at the first 3 films and see what people mean about them not being great, but then I look at 4,5, & 6 and to be honest I'm not sure how well they stand the test of time.
But for me the biggest problem is that Maurice Murphy won't be on the soundtrack.

Indeed the Thrawn trilogy was awesome (can't believe i read those 20 years ago as a teen!) but i think the moment has long passed where they could make these into films. I just can't see an audience accepting different actors as Luke, Leia and Han. darth_pies said:

But here's the bad;
Disney? Are they really going to make a Star Wars film that'll be aimed at teens and adults? Or will they give in and aim it at the children that all the original Star Wars fans have now had?
It does (mildly, I must get out more) amuse me that people think Disney is just about the kids.Disney? Are they really going to make a Star Wars film that'll be aimed at teens and adults? Or will they give in and aim it at the children that all the original Star Wars fans have now had?
As with all these things I hope whatever they do rides roughshod over "the canon" that has sprung up around it all thereby teaching such sad tts as get their knickers would up in a twist over such things not to be such sad tts in the first place.
I enjoyed the last 3 films made. Good kids films with some suitably adult bits and encouraged us not to take life or films too seriously. The only "bad" thing about them was Christianson was an even more wooden actor than Clive Owen.

I'll give them a chance, it's not as if anyone is going to mind them standing on the toes of episodes 1-3.
It's not going to beat the original ones, but I reckon they could make a good go of it.
Though someones earlier suggestion of Tarantino directing sounds like genius, I'm not sure I could see that working at all!
