Nah, the Cumberbatch voice over is nicked from the last Star Trek film - that'll cause a few ripples with the die-hards!

Its fake. Cobbled together from video game cutscenes I read.

Like that? it's from the old republic adverts.

The other one had a robot on a football...
Robot on a football is real hehe

At least one part from that 'cinema filmed' trailer is from Star Trek into Darkness with Cumberbatch fighting the clingons...

Just not excited.

Leave it alone and make some new films about something else, please.

Why do people persist in thinking Star Wars is defined by light sabres and space ships?? They're fking minuscule props that good characters and a strong story hang on. All that trailer was, was effectively one minute of iconic Star Wars images flashed in front of your eyes.

Woo, a dessert landscape. Oh, a trooper. Wow, the millenium Falcon, some X wings and a novelty 'space sword'.

It'll be st.
Bless, you're real ray of sunshine aren't you?

It's a teaser trailer, what more did you expect?

No one thinks Star wars is defined by light sabres and spaceships otherwise we wouldn't all point out how god awful the prequels are.

It at least looks like they are on the right track and I'm glad to see they've put those iconic images in there as it shows they understand who they should be appealing to.

Plenty of new films coming out all the time as well, most of them st. Never understood that as an argument.

Uhhhhh, looks like it has some of that 'haha' element to it, with the bouncy robot ball thing.

I just hope the new director doesn't make it too much ADHD inducing, serious one second, funny haha comic relief section the next kinda thing.

What does being a ray of sunshine have to do with it?

I just don't see how you can discern anything at all from that trailer about what direction they're going in. As you say yourself, it's just a teaser trailer so if you mean "it's good to see that they are making a film about Star Wars" then I suppose yes, that must have come as good news to you, as that's all I took from it.

You may as well have had the CG equivalent of George Lucas shouting "Millenium Falcon, Light Sabres, TIE Fighters, Sand, Droids!" at a bewildered audience for a minute and a half whilst the orchestra play the usual.

I'm not saying it WILL DEFINITELY be st, really, but I sort of suspect it will be.

Also disagree about new films. Remakes and remakes and remakes might be good but will never be great. Lots of great new films come out but nobody goes to see them because the studios won't support them or risk blowing the marketing budget on an unkown quantity.

I'd rather somebody made the next film that changes everything the way Star Wars did, than simply makes Star Wars episode 19.

Same here! I thought it was going to be some fan made pisstake!

Otherwise - fk YES!!!

Odd to see Tie-fighters / X-Wings and the Falcon having a fight though, given the feel of the prequels and the montage end of the special editions I'd have thought all that would have merged, but it seems it's back to the old Empire v Rebels.

I don't care either way, it certainly has none of the feel of the prequels.
The E.U. had an Empire remnant that went up against the New Republic. Be interesting to see where this goes, It has Xwings, the Falcon, TIEs and lightsabres, I look forward to a full trailer soon.

I was sarcastically implying that you were being overwhelmingly negative and spoiling the mood. smile

I personally think it was quite easy to discern from the teaser that at least the general look and feel of the film seems to be going in the right direction as it is in no way comparible to the sequels in that respect (shiny shiny, cartoon like)

It's not a remake, it's a continuation of a much loved story that will hopefully take it into new areas and directions. FFS, Star Trek is a 're-imagining' by the same director and look how well that turned out. We've been waiting 30 years for a decent Star Wars film, so hopefully this will be the one (I'm strangely optimistic). If not I'll give up hoping...

There are still directors out there who are pushing audiences even with big budget blockbusters (Nolan's Inception is a good example I feel) but unfortunately Michael Bay style rubbish does seem to sell a hell of a lot of tickets.

Thankfully occasionally something fun like Guardians of the galaxy comes along.

The tracking shot from behind the Falcon really highlights all that is wrong with CGI though. Too busy, too outside of our Frame of Reference to be able to relate to it, so it causes disorientation and nausea. (It was very cool though).

For me, the best bit was the X-Wings flying low over the lake. That was coooooooooooooool.

There is a clue hidden in the thread title. If one is not interested in Star Wars. It is clearly labeled to avoid it.

Don't be an arse. I'm a huge fan of Star Wars. But I like good films. So I won't just accept any old st that's squeezed out the collective bottom of the production team and gets a light sabre poked into it like a cocktail stick.

I dearly hope this film is good but I'm sceptical.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but already that trailer loses me by having CG provide 'camera angles' that a camera couldn't get. I HATE that.

You can do fantastic things with CG but it has to be things we can feasibly imagine a camera actually being able to film ere it really taking place.

A 'virtual GoPro' from an x wing pilot's 'helmet cam' even, would be more creative than spaceships flying 'through' the camera.

Oh purleease. There isn't the requirement to be a "gushing fool" to contribute to this thread. Dissent and discussion is allowed. Maybe we need a sub-thread for "starrey eyed fan adulation, no negativity allowed"? biggrin

Yes, I totally agree. Films like this are all about "willing a suspension of disbelief". Camera angles like that strain the disbelief and they shouldn't.

You must admit though surely that PM set alarms bells ringing as soon as you saw any of the details of what Lucas was up to whereas for me at least this doesn't illicit the same reaction. Rather than an obvious cash grab from George, which is all the prequels where, at the heart of it this does actually appear to be being made by people who want to see a great new Star Wars film, which has to be a good thing right?

Also, the camera angle complaint makes no sense to me. Why would you care about whether those shots could be caught by a cameraman or not? I want to be immersed in the action by the best view possible rather than being limited to where a camera can go.
