you could well be right, many more engines and no obvious bridge like a Star Destroyer.

You can see some of the Star Destroyers found in various SW lore in this image.

Plenty there not seen in any of the previous films that we might see in the new ones!

Based on that screenshot it is a bit tricky to tell. I reckon it's upside down? Certainly a different one to the first shot.

Is it just me of is this thread getting a bit scary now?!

All this talk Extended universe and discussing the merits of what model of Star Destroyer is probably the geek attitude that made the prequels so bad.

I loved the original three films as a kid and between me and my bro we pretty much had a large % of the toys - I thought the prequels were arse cheese and was disappointed - but they are just that - films - as long as they are kick ass and fun I really don't care how "real" they are. confused

Still looking forward to the new one though. wink

I think it is a upside-down super star destroyer (or Executor-class Star Dreadnought if you want to be really geeky).

The stern extends back beyond the rear 3 engine exhausts. In the screenshot above you can see that partially covered in sand.

I completely disagree. The "geek attitude" is what has made the series so successful and netted George Lucas a metric fktonne of cash.

And, further, most Star Wars "geeks" (as you so disparagingly refer to them) hated the prequels and felt that Lucas curled off a huge dump on continuity and fandom in general, which is the complete opposite of what you're implying.

Similar to a few other posters, I grew up with the original trilogy (in fact the Star wars/ Empire Strike Back double bill when I was 5 is my favourite cinema experience) and the associated toys and video games. I then subsequently got all excited for each of the 3 turds in turn, that were the prequals. After that I decided I was not be the least bit excited about this and chose to ignore all news regarding the new film. That was until some bacensoredrd posted the first trailer on Facebook, now after this latest trailer I'm all intrigued and getting excited about taking my Son to see it. Damn you Hollywood!

Don't let your anger turn you to the dark side.

Like I said, they are just films.

My feeling is that George Lucas, being a geek himself, had the geek thing in his mind when he was making the prequels. Trying to appeal to them and also make a load of money from a new generation of fans, yet he got it soooo wrong.

Like the special editions - using geek technology to try to "improve" things, just spoilt the charm of the originals.

Star Wars fanboys are scary - the Fast and the Furious lot didn't get angry and use naughty words when I suggested that a franchise I originally enjoyed lost its way.

ETA - I class myself as an original Star Wars film fan, not a Star Wars geek. Nothing wrong with geeks though.

Based on the multiple groups of engines, offset from each other. I'd say it looks like a super star destroyer - upside down

I was quite surprised to learn that BB-8 is not CGI but a working model (don't ask me how it works).
Probably based on similar technology to a segway.

I try to forgive the prequels as much as possible, but by god this looks so, so much better - I know it's only a trailer and it might be a flashy looking film with an appalling story and terrible dialog - but so far it's got everything right that the prequals had wrong - it looks right, it looks dusty and dirty, stuff looks like it's seen some action - Han Solo's couple of seconds screen time alone had more on-screen charisma than the entire prequel series.
This has been pointed out by others on other forums, but look closely at the camera movement in the first shot. It's wobbly, as if an operator was manually panning it. In the 70s.

People are suggesting that, if that's the attention to detail that's being paid to the feel of the thing, then we're in for something special.

I never was much of a Star Wars fan, but this does have me intrigued...

Tingles and a bloody tear in my eye - can't believe how that's got to me so much. Very excited ... I was 14 when Star Wars was released, I'm as excited now at 52. Hopefully the last 3 can be forgotten at long last smile
It hits you right in the guts.

I was 6 & my husband was barely born & we had a similar reaction if that makes you feel any better? biggrin

39 here and had exactly the same effect. My kids thought it was most amusing to see their dad get all teary eyed over some old bloke and a walking carpet...

I feel sorry for them as I can't think of anything that has come out in their lifetime that could possibly generate the same response so many years later.

Woah woah woah... are you suggesting that in 30 years time when they see the trailer for "Fast & Furious 67 Blue Badge Discrimination" that they won't get misty eyed???
